I already have, Fred regarding my rear brakes. VOSA read the figures back to me: overall braking was 63%, and 23% for the parking brake. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's over the 50%, 16% pass mark, right? lol And the rears are definitely functioning - brakes and pads were replaced last year...
I didn't want to take it back (having done nothing to it) and for him to point out a lamp that I'd been overlooking. Sorry for the stupidity of this entire thread, also. It's just hard to believe that they'd flag up n non-existent fault; but alas...
What would you deem to be the centre stop light? I know it sounds ridiculous, but as I said: all the lights are working - the light on the spoiler, both brake lights, either side. Hence, I'm a tad confused.
Refusal of an MOT Test Certificate:
Centre rear Stop lamp not working [1.2.1b]
-------------------------------------------
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this means a brake light is out, right? I've just checked all the rear lights, however, and they are all working.
Am I missing something...
My car (172 cup) has been down on power for the past few months and has now developed a misfire. After a bit of lead pulling (from the coil pack), the problem is definitely the 3rd cylinder - it makes no difference whether the lead is on of off.
Something I noticed though: the other 3 leads...
Fred, Rob, Valver - Any tips or things I should know about before I blindly go into fitting them next weekend? Well, I have a guide that fUbar did but that's about it. I hate being so n00bish.
Ok, so having failed its MOT yesterday, rather than arguing to Renault with a VOSA printout, I may just bite the bullet and replace the rear brakes on my 172 cup (tbf the pads are getting a bit low anyway)
Anyone had any experience with these? They seem very cheap, but considering how little...
Bit of an update:
I've just spoken with VOSA and they have given me the total braking figures quoted by Renault as 52%
So, surely that's a pass?
I have no figures for the rears alone, but based on reading the VOSA pdf, given that they are actually functioning (not reading at 0%) then its a...
Thanks Ben, it's appreciated. Is the 50% an average of all four?
For example:
Front o/s = 90, n/s = 90
Rear o/s = 18, n/s = 20
Average of all four = 54.5% = pass
Also, you say that a tester can still fail it even if it hits 50%.. how so?
Britt - I've searched and there's no detailed information regarding percentages.
I read somewhere about a 80/20 split, but is that the standard factory percentage? Is that the minimum pass requirement? Is that even a true figure?
Fred - I intend to tomorrow; hence, I'd like some rough...
I had the cup MOT'd earlier at Renault and the car failed due to the rear brakes recording "little or no effort".
I'm aware that this is a common problem and have access to the VOSA document, however does anyone know what percentages at the rear would constitute as a fail? Or is it calculated...
Hey guys, I'm thinking of giving the throttle body of my 172 cup a good cleaning this weekend. I've searched through the guides and have a rough idea of what I'm doing. My question however is once I've cleaned the thing (I'll gonna use carb cleaner) does it need any additional...
Re: ***How much is my car worth?***
Thinking about selling my 172 cup. Any ideas of a valuation?
Completely standard (except K-tec Stealth stainless exhaust),
32,000 miles,
Full Service History plus receipts, original documentation etc.,
Paintwork is immaculate (minus some stone-chips to...
A lot of people get Brembo HC's and Ds2500's fitted at the same time. All I'm saying is that a lot of people seem to credit the pads and not the discs. Imo the discs seem responsible for a LOT of the braking performance and I genuinely find it hard to believe that I could get THAT much more...
The DS2500's, as good as they may be, have developed such a rep on here that when questioned, everyone will claim then to be the best thing since sliced bread, probably to justify the price tag to themsleves.
I'm not saying they're not good. But, if you've tried them already then why not try...
I have standard pads (Ferrodo) from Renault, coupled with Brembo HC discs and the stopping power is unbelievable. I find it hard to believe the 2500's could provide much more than that. Certainly not enough (imo) to warrant the extra £60 anyway.
For a beginner, Autoglym Super Resin Polish (SRP) and Extra Gloss Protection (EGP) act well together as a polish/sealant combo. Wax is down to preference but your Dodo Juice stuff should be more that up to the job.
Ps. There's a lot more info on this in the detailing section.
