Most insurers will increase the premium for a modified car. Normally, the more you mod it the more it costs and pricing can be in 'bands'. Phone up someone like A-plan and they will give you some advice i'm sure
Love the grey Clio by the way.

I have had a 182 and now own a 197.
The 197 is a step up in refinement and is more sure footed when it comes to handling. But...for outright fun? It's the 182.
If you go for the Trophy, check the dampers. They are expensive to rebuild. I would get one from off this site if you can
Re: My 172 Cup (T5MY G) 191.2 Bhp & 173.4 Torque
Northampton Motorsport are a great outfit. You won't be disappointed. Not the cheapest but they really know their stuff.
All you need is a car with a good chassis, good tyres and good brakes. Do a track day and you will learn that power means nothing without the ability to use it.
I had great fun in a 1.2 clio with sticky tyres. Getting most out of a car is fun.
MX5?

I have done two of these days, albeit before they changed the format to owners only days and they are superb entertainment.
Enjoy it! I suspect many have never driven one before. They really are good fun and for little money can be rapid...
A 182 feels much quicker in a straight line. I think the 197 lacks torque but the additional refinement makes it feel much slower then it is.
Great handling though.

I haven't read all of this thread but this question is relative - £2,000 to some is not a lot of money but to most (me included!) it's a lot.
If the OP is a student, for example, with limited income, I would suggest you wait as it might not leave much left for anything else!
31 with a 197.
My two track day buddies are considerably older with Clios.
One is mid 40's? Has a 200 and an Exige
One is 60 ish and has a 182 and a GT3.
No one is too old to drive a Clio. These are really good cars.
It might seam like a lot of money but you will no doubt have a cracking car once it's finished.
Good luck and enjoy it. These cars really are great.

Me and my friend drove to Spa in Belgium. On the way I insisted that he bought breakdown cover.
He managed 4 laps before the engine went. The bill was over £2 to get the car back.
Just out of interest..
With a mildly modded Clio, say exhaust, remap, stripped interior, coilovers and good set up (let's not get too bogged down with details), what sort of performance gains could you reasonable expect?
Does anyone actually have any before and after lap times?
I'm very...
