Ye I heard rumours it blew up :-/ Was SO quick, I had it stripped out with one seat lol M3 slayer.
This was the spec when I sold it about a year and a half ago:
1993 Mk1 Ph1, Renault Clio 1.8 16v Turbo, 210 BHP @ the fly.
Basic spec:
Garrett GT2860RS BB Turbo @ 8psi of boost
Manual...
Not so... according to the log book only 6 + me but there were 3 or 4 owners before Middo.
Only ever drive this 3-4 times a month as its a 2nd/3rd car, only dont 1,500 in 6 months including a trackday.
Engine is running sweet as a nut, doesn't use a drop of oil like a few rumours I heard...
Not posted any pics of the sunflower since I bought her earlier this year. Alot of work gone into her getting her running right and tidying her up. Still lots of work to do yet, considered selling up but not made my mind up yet.
Comments welcome guys... enjoy.
Got these tyres on mine. Excellent grip in the dry, almost (but not quite) as good as R888's in the dry. They are pretty average in the wet but not dangerous.
Good budget trackday tyre.
I own Middo's old bus now, it got stripped of all its bling pretty much and was in a bit of a state when I bought it needed all sorts doing to it. Heard a few myth's before I bought it that the engine was fooked, but after owning now for 3 months it pulls like a train and doesn't use a drop of...
Generally ok to run no liners in summer but in winter its best to run liners when the weather starts to get worse.
Removing the liner's exposes the engine bay to water and dirt. If you go through a deep puddle/ford your at high risk of shorting something out, or even sucking water into your...
Middo bought a Twingo and lerks in the background now a days, I have have his car now and she's been hiding on track
No you cant do this, I already beat you! :rasp:
Nice budget project you got here, careful as the budget can soon be blown with these 'toys'.
Do you work at Gardner Aerospace? I know that company very well as a supplier.
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Now you set it out like that it appears you have put some thought and 'science' into this and like you say its tried and tested by 15+ trackdays. Guess it just a case of keeping a close eye on things and regular inspections.
I have a simliar problem...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Good work, however I would be concerned about the material you removed on the stub axel as you want as much strength as possible there for safety, especially as yours is a track day car and experiences high load. If you ever use slicks you will put even more...
I have Hankook RS2's on mine now and PE2's before that.
The Hankooks are better in the dry and an excellent budget trackday tyre. However in the wet they are not as predictable as the PE2's and dont have the same level of grip.
My view is that as a road tyre the PE2's are a better all round...
Whistle will be an exhaust leak from somewhere. Get it up on axel stands and inspect the exhaust system.
Until you carry out an inspection we can only guess.
Whistle will be caused by either a small leak on a join or there could be a perforated hole in the system some where. Look for condensation leaking out a join when cold or look for black sooty marks where exhaust gas is leaking.
Just had a very similar problem on mine and changed the the cat...
Had similar problems on my previous Clios and it was either: Fuel pump relay fuses (corroded), loose wire on starter motor, Imob fault or faulty key/ key not being recognised.
Think you need to get this to a garage for further testing and diagnosis.
