Recently I've noticed an odd smell from my 172. If I accelerate past around 4.5k I get a slight whiff of burning. It smells like clutch, however there is no noticeable slipping at any revs, no smoke, etc. I'm potentially looking to sell the car soon, so would like to get this sorted if I can.
I'm glad you saw this thread before taking your car there. Unfortunately I didn't end up getting any money back from them as the Which Trusted Trader ombudsman found in their favour (largely due to me not getting an independent engineers inspection report before getting my car fixed elsewhere)...
Just out of interest, why is it that the Ph1 seems more prone to rusty sills and arches that the Ph2? Other than the front end, body wise they're the same car really aren't they? Is it purely down to age, or is the Ph1 not galvanised as well perhaps?
This thread has definitely given me some food for thought. I've spent so much time and money getting my ph2 sorted that I really am torn. Don't have the space for two Clio's so it would have to go first realistically if I did go for a Ph1. Not sure I'd get what I want for it either. Decisions...
I'm also at the point where I'm probably around 2.5 - 3k into a car which maybe on a good day is worth around 1500 quid. But then again, being sensible with cars has never been my strong point ?
The potential for rust is a concern. My ph2 is solid apart from the little paint bubble near rear arch, and that's only the result of a less than perfect repair at some point.
Ice owned my ph2 172 for nearly a year now. Had a few initial problems (mainly due to previous owners neglect) that I've paid a fair few quid to sort out. As it sits, other than an occasional notchy down change into third and a tiny paint blister near the rear bumper/arch, the car is now sorted...
Started car in garage this morning after having stood overnight and computer didn't reset. Drove car out of garage, switched off to lock garage up, etc. When I restarted the car the computer reset. Weird.
For the last week or so with these cold mornings, the trip computer/mpg, etc have been resetting themselves to zero most times that I start the car. After doing some research on here I read that it's likely to be the battery on its way out causing it, however I replaced the battery in May, so it...
Yeah it's very strange. The thermostat and CTS were both genuine Renault parts so is unlikely they're faulty. I'm wondering if maybe a small airlock could cause it, but failing that I'm all out of ideas.
So I had my thermostat and coolant temperature sensor changed a couple of weeks ago along with a complete coolant flush and change due to my temperature gauge dropping a notch or so from halfway, before rising again. This was usually happening on cold or wet mornings down a long hill. I noticed...
I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a complete noob when it comes to car detailing. I've washed car cars using a bucket and shampoo in the past, along with the odd application of Autoglym wax, etc. I currently wash the car using a petrol station jet wash every week or so, which I know isn't ideal...
I supplied the spacers, so were fitted AFAIK. Lights haven't come back on since Saturday, but will get it plugged in to clip when I get chance. Only way to know for sure ?
Pulled into work this morning, and when I glanced at dashboard my SERV, ABS and ESP lights were on. Turned ignition off and restarted and they cleared. Had a quick search and can't find a definitive answer so I'm guessing I'll prob need to get it plugged into diagnostics. I did have my rear...
Tbh if it is the lifter I don't think it's got any worse in the time I've had it and it doesn't seem to affect performance at all. Can't hear it at all when driving, so I'll live with it for now.
