Help with HDMI ARC...

Hadn't even heard of this before I picked my new TV up at the weekend. Took me a while but I've got it all up and running now and very happy with the set up other than one thing... this is how I have things:

TV [HDMI 2 ARC] --- AMP [HDMI 1]
TV [HDMI 1] --- PS4 [HDMI]

Quite simple 😌 now the only issue I have is if the PS4 is turned on, and I switch over to the TV, the signal is terrible and quite often gives up completely and outputs 'Signal weak or not available'

If I unplug from HDMI 1 on the TV or turn the PS4 to rest mode (or off completely) the signal comes straight back and is fine!

There's obviously some kind of conflict going on... any idea how to resolve this?

ARC is crap and unreliable, turn off all HDMI-CEC or control settings.

Oh and run everything through your amp

Tried running the PS4 directly to the amp... I then get the choice of either sound or vision, doesn't do both for some reason.

Any ideas how it should be then?

I mean... as it is, it works perfectly other than that one small issue. Doesn't matter too much as you obviously can't watch both things at the same time anyway, the only thing it does mean is I can't pause a game and watch TV... have to turn the PS4 into 'rest mode' first.

I have the same amp. Mine is set up as follows:

HDMI OUT on amp connected to ARC on tv. XBOX and WDTV connected to TV HDMI input 1 and 3. Input selector on Onkyo set to ARC (TV). Had exactly the same setup on my old Panasonic TV and my new Sony.

Yup that's the same as mine (thought I had it in HDMI IN on amp, but I was wrong, it's in OUT) strangely enough... it's working perfectly now!?

Switched over to TV earlier whilst forgetting to turn the PS4 off and this time it came up on screen saying 'Anynet+ device disconnecting' and to my surprise the sound and vision were both there  maybe it just needed a good old reboot!

Don't see the advantage of plugging the PS4 directly to the amp when this setup is (now) working perfectly for me and has done for some time for you.

Your TV won't pass through any surround sound.

HDMI will always go to the lesser mode so plugging it straight to your TV will mean it will be 1080p 2ch audio as your TV is only stereo. This means over the ARC it will only give 2ch audio back to the AVR so you won't have proper surround sound as the PS4 doesn't see the AVR that can do 5/7.1ch audio.

That's why everything should go to your AVR as it will extract the highest audio for your surround speakers then send the video to your TV, your actually defeating the object of having a 5/7.1ch AVR and you could just have a stereo Amplifier how your setup is.

I see! thanks for the explanation. Luckily my system is only 2.1 at the moment, but if I choose to go 5.1 in the future, I'll mess around with it again and try and get it set up 'properly' but for now, at least, problem solved it seems! One of those things I guess...
