    Catcams timing

5503505 304°/295° - 267°/259° - 12.45mm/11.95mm - 4.65mm/4.15mm . They are full race spec camshafts and to correctly fit them the cam timing must be dialed in using vernier camshaft pulleys and as such you cannot not rely on the factory camshaft locking tool set up to install correctly. The...

Cylinder 4 misfires and smoke from engine bay

Oil either gets in to cylinder passed the rings from the sump or down the valve guides. If plug is soaked in oil then unlikely to be valve guides. Check the compression on offending cylinder, could be a broken ring or excessive bore scoring/ wear.

    Paintwork pricing

Resprayed my Ford Anglia in 2K earlier in year in spruce green with white roof. Good few coats of primer were required and looking back I definitely didn't spend more than £250 on painting materials at my local supplier. So £500 estimate for materials should leave you with change. Most of...

    Welding

Ah, a good way to explore then and learn a new skill set. Always lots of cheap second hand "hobby" type mig welders about when you feel the need to have a go. Seems that a lot of people buy them then, finding its not as easy as it looks , and a bit of a steep learning curve a swell so they...

    Welding

Stick welding not really practical for car repairs, more suited to steel fabricstion / site welding where thicker steel sections are used. Your first welds are unfortunately sat on top of the steel with no penetration. Mig / Tig welding is the way to go really for car stuff with mig being the...

    Epas converson

Thanks for your reply and assistance. Currently car runs with electro/hydraulic system which works just fine, however, as the car is solely for sprints/hillclimbs thought while the car is stripped for rebuilding I would alter it to fully electric thus doing away with the potential for any...

    F4R Flywheel Machining/Skim

Refacing a flywheel for the first time to remove minor wear where you are removing a few thou of material would be extremely highly unlikely to cause any failure due to it adversely affecting the structural integrity of the flywheel. Can't see it causing a problem really. Off on a tangent. I...

    weird clutch problem

An lot of clutch problems can actually be caused by "driver related" issues, rather than problems with the actual clutch itself. Not saying it is the case here, however, if a clutch is used without any "mechanical sympathy" or the wrong one fitted for its purpose then they don't like it.

Matched Inlets worth doing along with group n timing ?

Group N timing on its own will give a slight increase in bhp so every little helps as they say. I've seen some very optimistic claims for bhp increase due to fitting matched inlets. In reality don't think any minor increase gained (if any!) is worth the effort and cost. Then again its not my...

Clio 172 New spark plug thread

In an ideal world the head should be off to repair although you can actually successfully repair plug threads with the cylinder head in place if you know what you are doing, again not for the faint hearted or keyboard warriors. In the long term if using helicoils as the repair they can tend to...
