Half the people that usually comment on the 197/200 have never driven one. They listen to and then regurgitate comments made by others.
I had a 172 cup before the 197, they are both great cars but the 197 clinches it for me. Just a nicer place to be!
very little "performance" difference. 197 is more refined in general but 6th gear is too short for comfortable cruising at motorway speeds imo.
handling wise, Id say the 197 is better/easier but Im no driving god.
CS doesnt like 197's though so bear this in mind.

I find the "mid range" mpg to be comparable to the 172. The biggest limitation is that on a run it tops out at 35 (38 driving like a fossil). In the 172 cup I could easily reach 45 driving normally.

197 doesnt feel any faster but it does feel more special. Build quality is better and it feels tighter/more planted.
