When did you change the bottom ball joints? I've used some cheap ones before and after only a couple of months 1 started knocking again!

You need to undo the pinch bolt at the very bottom that connects the column to the rack. It's a fiddly bugger but jack the front up and remove the wheel to aid access. Turn the steering so that the bolt head is facing outwards to make it easier,you'll see what I mean when you do it. It's...

Have a look into the variable EPAS conversion, using all Renault parts apart from the variable controller device thingy :) Theres some threads on it!

Does the column definitely have play? I only ask as if you rock it quickly backwards and forwards in only small amounts it does feel slightly odd because of the motor and its resistance (which obviously you dont get on a normal PAS system) but when driving it still moves the rack/wheels...

Must be the relay then as you say, so long as the wiring is all ok which no doubt you've checked umpteen times by now lol! The main +'ve and -'ve are wired the correct way round to the original wires aren't they? I'm not sure if this matters or not though....
