any1 local have alook at my engine - it dont sound right

  clio rs
after a rebuilt - done 700mile now but the engine dont sound right.
Had the car reserviced 2weeks ago from them.
Is their anyone local can have a quick look, as maybe its just in my head.
I live in eastlondon near startford and Im happy to meet up.

I would but dont think i'll have time on my way back. I'm in Putney at the moment. Whats it sound like?

  clio rs
sounds different after that video - a video wont help as it wont catch all the noises - Plus i wanna compare the noise off another clio

  clio rs
its got the same diesel noise - but that bit is normal on clio RS

Il go take a video and upload it in abit

Its not 'normal' really, its just when the dephaser goes noisy/worn. Sounds nothing like it with a brand new dephaser pulley on it.

  clio rs
it sounds sporting when revving it

when running sounds diesel and tapping that concerns me. I just had the lambda sensor done at Ren7aoks and was hoping it will go away after that, plus i didnt notice it much before as the exhaust was too loud before.

gotta be someone on here that came meet up or take a look

Lamba sensor won't make a blind bit of difference to a 'tapping' engine.

Sounds suspiciously like oil starvation to me, IIRC your old engine was a gonna due to low oil yes? I would check the dipstick if I was you. DP pulley is also a likely cause.

thanks TOM

JUST CHECKED THE DIPSTICK

WTF NO OIL!!! i can see oil leak near the dip & clearly stated on the Ren7oaks invoice

opps.

They will have replaced the oil. You wouldn't have got 100 meters down the road without it. Its just made its way out since.

  clio rs
so wont be driving the car :-(
whats the next step?

*demand for it to be towed to the rebuild place
*call trading standards and citizens advice

the dipstick only shows the top litre of oil so it might just be low. Be very sure it's actually low and not just very clean oil.

Also, that invoice hasn't got oil on it, it says check oil leak.

(ROCKET COVER LEAKING)

think that would be enough to prove that its not done properly
I still have 8 months warranty, so they should sort it out.

so should i top it up with oil for now and still drive it?

When it's been driven or turned over the oil on the dipstick looks alot lower then if it's been left to sit and gather in the sump. I checked my oil one morning and it was on the top level of the dipstick. Turned it over and for one reason or another I looked at it again and it looked very low. So be careful. Don't want to over fill it.

Cool. Didn't want you to "fill it" drive down the road and get plumes of smoke and invalidate the "warranty" on the rebuild.

Inlet pulley all day long that noise!
And Maz, 95% of 172's leak oil from the rocker covers, its renaults little mistake of building them with s**t roll on sealer! I would also imagine the warranty you have will not cover any items that have been caused by naglect. (not checking oil etc)

  clio rs
they may suffer frm oil leaks but mine was serviced 2weeks ago by them.
Thats why i didnt even stop to think the noise cud be the oil. I topped it up with abit of oil just to Stay safe.

  clio rs
Im try to workout where the oil could of gone in such a short time, could it be due to driving 9days with no lambdo sensor and mainly oil leak??

  172 Cup
Just because it was serviced doesn't mean they have to fix the leak. If it was a good enough garage they should of produced you with a visual health check sheet. Any raised concern's should of been noted and then passed to you for authorisation to carry out the work. Ive seen a good few clio's also suffer from rear main oil seals, check on the undertray for any signs. It can be easily confused with weeping gearbox's though! Give R Sport a shout and get it booked in, there down london way and are good with renaultsport's!!

Put oil in it...

It is very usual for a rebuilt engine to burn oil when bedding in. That is all they will tell you

  Artic 182
And if you knew how hard it was to take the rocker off a RS you wouldnt expect it to be included in a service...

Rocket cover is cambelt off job aint it?

Mines getting re sealed when the cambelts done.

Will this be engine number 2 to die from no oil?

  clio rs
yes same place - it was the 1st 600mile service after rebuild - I paid them £80

where bouts is R-sport in london never heard of them
