Funniest Thing You Have Been Told By A Dealer...

slightly off topic but along the same lines,
i bought a wide screen tv form comet a years ago and to try and get me to sign up for the insurance the salesman told me their is a world shortage of wide screen tv tubes!!!!!!
hence the fact i s**t my self and bought 15 spare wide screen tv tubes just in case.................

I went to see how much i could get for the RX8 i had at New cheltnem Cars (or something like that) based in Saltford.
It was a 2005 with 6k miles on the clock.
I went in and gave the guy the details, he said he would ring me.
He rang me up and said his offer was 6k. I asked why they offered so little for a car that was a couple of years old with low miles.
He said, quote:
"A car with low miles can work as a disadvantage as it will make it more expensive than other ones with higher miles"
I laughed, said No thanks, and hung up.

Not something they said, but i drove past my local the other day and noticed a 182 on the forecourt. Then yesterday decided to go for a closer look as i was passing again.
An 05 182, up for, £8499. Didn't even get out of the car, just slowly drove back out when i saw the price.

^And that is why i laughed at what i got offered on a PX wise on a new 200 for my minty LY 182 (when i say mint i mean bare miles, garaged every day and only used at weekends, recent cambelt service mint) yesterday!
The dealer reckoned mine wouldnt go up on his forecourt for anymore than £7500 so i replied why was a 53 plated iceberg silver, ten to the penny 172 up on your forecourt in may when i was having my service done for £7995!? lol
He responded by saying he didnt know but sold an R27 last week on the smae milage (30k) for £9995 even though i had already told him i knew they were circa 12k privately.....They are a joke tbh and i feel for people who go into these dealers not knowing much/having not researched the car much they are going to have gander at/buy!

And the £8500 one wasn't anything special, just silver but was ff.
To be fair on the dealer i saw it at, they did offer me what i paid for my car and dropped the price of a new 200 by nearly £3K when i considered buying one new so need to make money somewhere.

I guess the dealer bloke is blind aswell who dont know his products, i can tell you a B57!!! is a 5door clio, and a 1.8 valver is a 3 door as we all know which is type C57D and a williams is a C57M dozy sod:lolup:

Indeed but when you know (and he, the dealer knows) you'll struggle to find another 182 period in the same condition it is another story....It was even more funny as when i stood my ground and i was ready to leave he upped the price and offered what i wanted originally which was nowhere near what they are up at privately and it seemed abit desperate on his part!
You understand they have to make money somewhere but when you are paying hard cash for a 200 even if they are going to make 500/1000 on the px'd car (which they would've got at least on mine) they are still benefiting hugely!

a lady in renault parts department told me last week that she had to advise me to fit a brand new o/s drive shaft rather than a reconditioned one because fitting a reconditioned one could set the drivers airbag off!!! wtf. i asked why and she said "i dnt know thats what ive just been told". i laughed and just asked her to order me a reconditioned one

The reason why my drivers side window was rattling, is because it is a sporty car and I should expect the odd rattle here and there!
Also the reason why one of the warning lights kept coming on the dash was caused by my driving... Not the faulty sensor they found and replaced!!!

benfield ( scotswood rd, newcastle ) told my wife she would have to wait 2 hours for the front tyres to be changed on the R27 or "1 hour if you dont mind some scratches on them"

when i bought my ex demo R27 i asked the dealer to touch up a small scuff on the OS front wheel before i picked it up, imagine my horror to find some Fu*k witt had decided to respray BOTH front wheels in a darker colour, without primer ( paint was already flaking off) and ON the car (covering the red brakes)...needless to say they changed them before i took the car...i still laugh about it to myself to this day...

Clearly the guy just couldnt be bothered or thought I wouldnt buy one

Bear in mind that 'Renault' aren't 'Renault', they're a load of Franchised dealers. He's not going to point out to you that there's one 20 minutes up the road if it costs him or his group a sale! If the group don't have any country-wide, that's what he'll tell you.
I'd say it was more you that fits this thread than him, but hey!
