Drivers seat airbag went off...

I agree with the points and if I was selling I'd tell the buyer. But a lot of cars will have been repaired under insurance with more serious damage and not be declared. It's all relelative to the value of the car.

It was quite obvious the comment that would arise in the end.

I hope you sort out the airbags... What happens if the next owner crashes and dies.... beacause of the lack of the air bag.... :dapprove:

Think people need to read a thread before implying I'm intending to sell on a death trap.

The airbag light is a tempory measure, when I have the money I will be fitting the airbag, for the time being it's saving me £250 by not having it done.

Like I said, it's my car and it's a car that I take great pride in plus the body shop owner is my dads friend, it isn't going to be a quick fix bodge job, it'll be done to the highest possible standard. If there was any structural to it then i'd be going through the insurance and would not have the car back.

Fair enough people having an opinion, but still need to stick to the fact before folk start implying I'm intending to let a future buyer drive off in non-safe or structurally sound car.

If the same amount of damage had been done by say a car rolling into the side I think you wouldn't all be so insistent on the safety of the car, it's the pic that I think makes it look worse than it is.

How would you know this?
As an ex repair technician and now an assessor I can comfotably say and even more so in Renaults case corrosion protection will never last aslong as the factory on. The zinc coating between the spot welded panels will not last aslong as when they left the factory.

When you get it back, open the tailgate up and compare both quarters where it runs up past the tailgate strut and tell me it's new standard.

I'm not saying it won't be a half decent repair but it will never be the same and when someone comes to buying it that should be the first place they loki on a clio, that and the boot floor.

Why is everyone banging on about the repair and resale value? Its his pride and joy and he's getting it repaired by a garage to a high standard (hopefully). I'm guessing he won't be selling it anytime soon, and when he does sell it, whats to say he won't tell the buyer if its had work done etc.

Will post plenty of pics when the work is done for you to approve or disaprove! :dead:

I had my 182 at 20, bought it brand new, never drove like a hero to end up with it lying on the drivers side, clearly you can't really afford the car if you're wanting to save £250 on having the airbag replaced properly, also where do you live if you're excess is 900 odd quid.

I really hope when you come to sell the car it doesn't end up back on her as IMO its a worthless shed now.

Look mate i'm just stating the facts after you saying it'll be back to a new standard and it won't. I'll keep and eye out for your threads.

Can't really afford the car? I don't know of anybody who has £2500 to hand 12 weeks after buying a car plus I've spent £2k on it since I've had it.

Driving like a hero... this is merely a presumption, police attended the scene, were happy, they also requested the residents sweep up the road due to the amount of dirt and horse sh1t from their fields. Never had any points or any form of motoring conviction. 3 other cars have crashed there in the last 10 days according to the people who lived by.

As for it's a shed, you beggar belief mate, if a car had some smoothing done or re-sprayed would it then be a shed? Nothing is structurally damaged, everything will be renault parts.

The only possible argument agaisnt it is what Gally is saying about future corrossion but I'd say that's more a long term effect and is still only a probability.

It's a very well looked after car and as I keep repeating my dads mechanics have checked it plus the bodyshop owner is a friend of my dads, it won't be in there now being mended if there was any doubht.

Yeh I know and the comments have been taken on board mate. :)

Would also like to know why anybody else who has asked how to turn a airbag light off hasn't had their personal finances, driving ability, intentions etc... questioned. Massively over the top if you ask me.

  200 FF Storm Grey
I did consider that this morning lol but I thought surely it can't be that simple, is it individual led's for each light? Or can you get to the actual paper back off the dials?

Dry your eyes, you crashed, you're crying about it, this is a forum, people will question things, DONE.

Flol, driving with an air bag light on isn't the best idea in the world mate.

Hope you don't learn the hard way to save a few pounds on an ecu, I take my health far more seriously.

lol I'm crying about it? I'm sorry? I didn't mention the crash till you asked and even then all I've done is explain to everybody that it's being repaired rather than try for sympathy.

You seem very immature to me with the stuff you're coming out with 2bh mate, agreed it's a forum, I more often than not argue the toss on things but don't start making presumptions like you have constantly throughout the thread.

Question all you like and i'll answer but don't then start twisting anything I say or implying I'm a particular type of person based on one picture.

@gally as said it's just a tempory measure until I get some more money together, not ideal agreed, but there's plenty of cars on this site that have after market steering wheels with no airbag at all permanently and plenty of cars on the road with no air bags.

Not cutting corners, not trying to con anybody, not putting anybody else at risk so either answer the question or discuss the actual thread topic rather than preach

ive never seen your car before and i love it!(not in its current state) :( hope you get it sorted soon and its all back to its best :)

Gutted to see that mate, my car was a write off when I bought it, and had the passenger seat airbag go off. I ended up buying a new pair of front seats, just to replace the passenger side.

This means I now have a drivers seat lying about doing nothing, and you have a drivers seat with a blown airbag.... see where I'm going with this? Cheaper and easier to replace the seat, than stitch up the old one.

take the clocks out and put a small black piece of paper inbetween the led thingy and the airbag stencil thing on the dial front. i wouldnt do this as you never know if the other bags are faulty or not.

best of luck with the repairs :)

I'm based in Derbyshire, middle of the country.

I've had it sat round for a while doing nothing, so £70 collected and you can have it.

I had to replace my Air bag computer on my ph1 172 when I hit a curb, in the end I didnt bother, just put another seat in it, took the dials apart and stuck some duck tape over the warning light... X895 NGN if anyone has it...

Would the airbag work then though with the airbag light still being on?

Nathan. It's poor mate. Not quite as poor as selling a death trap but poor.

Has the puma got side airbags? If not then... following your logic you're driving a death trap?

I'd sell it on :dapprove:

Sorry there is no logic in what you just said.
As it happens, it does have side air bags as the millenium puma came with full recaro interior not the normal puma seats.

I'd be more worried about when that car he has sold crashes and the air bag doesn't go off, or he's driving along the road and the air bag goes off in his face.

This has nothing to do with side air bags. But then again the ecu must not do anything so just tape over the light and i'm sure the air bag will know that you're in a crash and go off itself. (Not so much aimed at you mate)

Im not sure Cunney... only one way of finding out I suppose. I got a new air bag computer off Joshydee but when fitting it along with the new seat the light was still on, possibly needed a new tensioner but it hadnt fired so not sure what the issue was.

Would the airbag work then though with the airbag light still being on?

Gally you need to take your head out Cunneys arse, if you gonna rip into him dont give him a reach around afterwards...

(Not so much aimed at you mate)

It wasn't aimed at him tho it was aimed at you.

It worries me that there is people like you out there that don't even have the common sense to know the ecu would need re-programmed from renault after fitting it, not that the pre-tensioner was the problem.

And then put tape over the f.ucking air bag light, that's not dishonest, it's probably illegal.

  Titanium 182
I wouldn't have a problem with you doing it IF you told the person you sold the car to.

Did you ?

  200 FF Storm Grey
Why didn't you just make the above post time ago rather than all the other sh1te, would of been much more helpful!

I aint selling the car so don't know where all that has come from and if I do sell and the airbag has not been resolved by then I'll obviously decalre and explain it.

So what we're saying is until the ecu is reset NONE of the airbags will function OR just the side airbag won't function?
