How far can a Cup's weight loss go?

Finally, I know for sure. I got around to weighing the last of what's been stripped today after Rentech Mike had his hands on it again, very pleased with the result...

The first stage (done ages ago) consisted of taking out the carpets, sound proofing, all interior trim except dash and roof lining, rear seats + belts, stereo + speakers, boot floor and parcel shelf, and came in at 65 kgs.

Today I weighed the driver's seat + mount, steering wheel, both airbags, carbon canister, fog lights, roof lining, power steering pump + tank + hoses, sun-visors + interior light, rear wheel/jack carrier, and that came in at 46 kgs.

I've added a race seat + custom mount, steering wheel + boss + spacer, driver's harness, and that lot was 14kgs.

Things I haven't weighed are my destroyed splitter, fuel rail, engine undertray and bonnet sound proofing, or the difference between the manual and powered steering rack...call that 7kgs (Mike reckons the rack alone was an easy 5).

Now I've still got the lardy passenger seat in there, so there's another 15kgs to be had by going for a lighter seat on that side, but as things currently stand, I'm at 917kgs, or 194bhp/ton.

Changing the remaining seat will get me to 197, so if my change to the manual steering has freed up 3bhp, I'll be at 200bhp/ton, for almost no money at all.

I love my Cup.

Take the slide lights bulbs out? Does the clutch cable have a weight on the end? Old ones didn't.

Suggestions:

CF bonnet or fibre glass, or remove the metal struts in the bonnet.
Drill holes in panels
Strip inside door metal off
CF door mirros
Poly carb windows
Only run drivers seat
Remove the dash board you pu$$ey :p
Remove heaters

Must be another 40kg right there!

Good work so far but you need to be more hardcore! he he.

Good stuff Mark

I have took out -

Everything out of the boot, rear seats including all belts, all carpets and rear cards, centre console + both front seats replaced with Cobra Suzuka and obviously dumping the belts etc from the front....what weight do you reckon that will be?

Start doing some serious weight loss, start chopping out the door and boot inners, get rid of the bonnet strengthening/double skinning.

There is loads of weight to save in removing unused wiring loom.

instead of the numberplate, get your reg stickered on! got to be worth a few grams!!!

Around 200 grams a plate if you want to talk numbers! Is your stereo all out yet? And erm... you seem to have gone the wrong way with adding a second rear view mirror - with close on 200bhp per tonne, the view out of the front should take priority!

Good work Mark but I reckon with more work 850kgs is easily achievable.....800 kgs if you went very extreme.

...But you do realise that you could have a 205 that is the same weight with a stereo and a heater etc etc :) lol

I know, not the same.

loads you can be doing but it's starting to get more involved now. i'd go for poly windows first - it's weight from the top half of the car, although i think the front three windows are lightened anyway aren't they? (not sure how they might compare with poly).

removing the heater's up there too but you'd probably want to think about how that might that affect the ventilation circuit

You sir are a legend. Light weight is the key to performance, you've taken it to the max.

I thought it had some mods? Fancy ECU/Exhaust etc? Also, has it been rollered, and weighed? You should do those things now so you know *exactly* what you've acheived, just as a matter of interest :)

Trust me, other than to start removing limbs / non vital organs etc, he's not got much weight to lose lol
