Good news and bad news from yesterday! Good news is ordered the correct part from Jenvey (hopefully) also got my hubs etc back from plating. Bad news is I've got the wrong wheel bearings to go back in them! Correct ones will
Be here today and pressed in.

My new harness turned up too, proper HANS one as using a normal 3" one is a pain with a HANS device.

Be nice to think it'll be all sorted tonight but just waiting for the next set back!

Nearly there! Got pretty much everything done tonight that I wanted apart from starting it as it was a bit late for doing that tonight.
Finally the correct part turned up from Jenvey

Got that fitted and all the throttle bodies put back together, took ages to get the linkage all setup in the correct place and adjusted to get full throttle.

  Hi comp phase 1
Love your attention to detail...I've been following your build for a while and must admit it's my fav on here :up:

How comes your using the jenvey throttle linkage instead of the pms linkage ?

Cheers

Thanks mate.
Think I've mentioned it already but the linkage is the same setup I've run previously so I know it works fine, the throttle cable is run different to most and didn't want to change that + the Jenvey linkage has a return spring built in where the pure one doesn't.

Its like driving a different car with the jenvey linkage. You can mash the pedal, or feather it and it works. Plus it always returns. The standard set up from Pure was really hit or miss. And it wasn;t fun going from 100+ to 30 while the car was still trying to accelerate because it had jammed open a bit

Had it outside on its wheels.

Ran it up to temp and let it idle for a while to check it over as much as I could. Got the coolant system bled as I was struggling the other night so changed the stat even though it was new and appeared to be working for the boiling kettle test! Might have been sticky/intermittent. It's fine now anyway.
Can get gears and it moves so just need to get it on the ramp tomorrow and bleed the brakes, adjust the exhaust and refit the front arb and spanner check it all ready for it going to Paul @ TDi North to be mapped next week.
Forgot to mention the other night that it wouldn't start so had to change the starter motor. Solenoid was open circuit but rest of the unit isn't that old, do people still rewind/refurb them?

Russ, I am curious to know if the slam panel still fouls on the itb's or would it clear as the inlets sweep downwards?

Good question, it might fit, but it'll be tight on the filter + make access a pain. The throttle body back plate is drilled off centre for bonnet clearance but pushes the plate/filter into the alternator so I need to get sinew back plate and drill it in the centre, the slam panel wouldn't clear then for sure.

Been at TDi North in Warrington today to have the car mapped.

Car behaved itself, all done and sorted. No issues shown up and it made good numbers so I'm pleased.

Some new stickers turned up as well so got them put on, nothing major, just my Facebook address and another TDi North sticker on the battery cover.

Was going to ask you about the holes left by removing the rubbing strips and whether you sealed them or not. My question has been answered.
Guessing the roof scoop sits over the aerial hole?

lovely garage set-up by the way

Off to Blink Motorsport tomorrow to be corner weighted and geo’d. Be interested to see what she weighs now with a few improvements. Hopefully something near 850kg with fuel, fingers crossed.
New tyres fitted to dry wheels.

Hopefully all goes well at croft on Sunday, got new dry tyres to scrub and pads to bed in. I’ve entered for Oulton Park cscc Tintops on the 7th October now and have a confirmed place.
Seems highly appropriate that I couldn’t get my number 15 that I’ve always run on this car and previous racecars and I’ve reverted back to number 82 that I used the first time I ever raced this car, the only time I’ve ever used it too. That was near enough 4 years ago to the week at Oulton park too. Managed a 3rd and 2nd that weekend with no brakes mostly, let’s hope for more of the same only a bit faster nowadays!

Anyway, been at Blink this afternoon. Turns out geo by eye wasn’t bad and I wasn’t far away! Didn’t even have it on our machine!
839ca19964b4e20e1ffcf4e018db02a8.jpg

All geo’d and corner weighted. Car with approx (at least) 25 litres of fuel on board (18kg) weighed in at 865kg so we’re under 850kg dry. Think we’re a good 15kg less than last time it was run. Will confirm exact fuel tomorrow but I measured out ‘approx’ 25L but it was very approx, all fuel is going to be weighed now so I know what I’ve got/used etc.
Forgot to mention, fitted my Cm Composites Cup spoiler the other day, had it here for ages so finally got it painted and bonded on.

Impact guns working on that as we speak! Will monitor the situation at croft see how it is, the guy that used to do my wheels always left the face/tapers bare but unfortunately he’s retired now.

Yeah I don't know why they don't mask the holes up. Your other guy you used to use sounds like he did a proper job.
