Wireless router issues

  RB 182
I'm currently living back with my parents on a temporary basis, their router is a pile of filth (SKY SAGEM). It will often cut out or go from a half decent Mbps to nothing at all, my mobile struggles to pick anything up and often switches from wirless to 3G on a regular basis.

I don't want to spend loads of money as I'm moving out soon so will take out my own service, is there anything cheap that will do the job on the market? The following are price range I'm looking for.

I've had lots of problems recently.

Firstly do you run bluetooth devices on the computer you're using Wi-Fi on? This can destroy your speeds... check speedtest.net with them on and off.

Also try http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ and do the advanced test where you put your phone number in, this'll tell you the maximum output of your line. If it's not what it should be, phone your provider. With me it was a problem at the exchange and it did take a while to get fixed unfortunately. All free though and EE even sent me a new free router.

Check your router firmware. The Sagems were plagued with wifi problems u til the last firmware update (a while back now). It's not actually a bad router (lack of functions but it is only a home router), and does what it says on the tin.
