Using a fair bit of oil

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
Done about 600 miles since last top up (filled to max line), now its half way down. Is it normal to use that much oil so quickly? Cars done 84k miles, 1.2 16v.

If it ain't what spinksy said, it's leaking through either the piston rings or valve stem seals.

you checked everywhere around that engine for leaks? Crank seal on flywheel side , should see oil on the gearbox

Checked your header tank/water bottle?

Wheres the header tank?

I had the camshaft seal kit fitted, it was previously leaking there. Running 5w/40. No visible leaking at all.

Spinksy do theses run a coolant cooled oil cooler ? Block behind the oil filter with coolant pipes attached?

No mate, the oil filter only has a sensor attached,

the only coolant in the car runs through the block itself, through the rad, and back into header tank

Pipe to engine from header, pipe from engine to rad, one from rad to header

Thinking about it this is probably why they seem to be so probe to head gasket failure and over heating tbh

Can only see benefits to adding a system though Ryan (apart from it being another part to break lol)

Well that puts my theory to shame lol

It's got to be burning it off somehow

This, it is either burning it or its going into the coolant system via the head gasket...

Was told by my Missus I should start up as a 1.2 Clio specialist lol told her it would be pointless without mechanic qualifications and with the 1.2's being cheap sh*t even compared to the 1*2's lmao

Hi guys,

Coolant tank is clear as a bell. The oil breather pipe has some in, and the bit where it joins to another pipe then goes into engine. The nozzle on back of engine is a bit oily. Air filter box often gets some in but I cleaned it out 3 weeks ago and its still clear after good few hundred miles :)

Which nozzle on the back of the engine?

And checked your sump/sump plug for any signs of leaks?

If not mate I fear Ryan is right and the oil is going where it shouldn't be in the engine past a piston ring or similar....

Sure you haven't noticed any black smoke?

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
No black smoke, nothing! Running sweet too. Heres a picture of the 3 way connector. This connects as a hose onto a nipple on back of engine.

Attached :)

Oh god Luke I forgot yours is where they changed the engine!!

Follow those pipes and if one leads to a block near the oil filter you want to speak to Ryan just incase!!

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
Haha, yep ;) One pipe goes into the air box, the other end of that small pipe goes into like a splitter which goes 2 other way, one other pipe goes to top left of the engine onto a nozzle and then the other goes below it then on the end of a nozzle which is also on the engine.

What could it be? A bit of oil gets in my air box and also in those breather pipe system. Worried!

I take my earlier statement back, It is another possible thing to break, Ryan (Derv Destroyer) probably has best idea judging by his earlier post mate

Possibly a worn seal/hose somewhere in that system?

whats the engine code? i'll go look it up for you.

is it swamping the airbox with oil or just a coating of the box?

a coating is normal, a puddle over a few weeks isnt !

It's still a D4F raz, it's the one where they changed it after the mk2 ph2 (mine; D4F 712) but before the 1.2tce if that helps mate?

One sec I will find the code that follows after D4F :)

Edit: Luke's (Op) is D4F-722 mate

lol i know its a D4F , i need the three digits after as they're all slightly different

Edit: ta, will go look it up, im sure those hoses is one for the case breather and some vac

They haven't got the modin oil cooler, just checked, it's only 1.5dcis and 1.4s that have it.

I know where the hoses go tho.

Why it has a dual case breathers I dunno, odd design.

Those coil packs look a bits to change lol

Well f**k about! That is quite a change compared to the 712....

Bit fiddly for the coil pack as you say lol

What you thinking it is raz? I still reckon it is internal for it to not show any external signs of leaks....(unless Luke is missing them lol)

if it was me , the engine would be out the bay for an inspection by now.

i cant see it being breather hoses or his airbox. you'd know about it if it was, the filter would be coated.

if there is no externall signs ( which i pressume he's looked hard enough lol ) then its got to be internal.

oil burns a blue colour not black. black is overfuel !

irrcc its one of three , head gasket - oil gallaries to cylinders , valve stem seals or piston rings.

i cannot think where else it can ' dissapier' without notice

i hope he dont thrash it , specially from cold

Tbf if it was piston rings etc there is a chance of some serious damage down the line...

Luke it is going to be a case of engine out and stripped down or get rid of the car (make buyer aware of fault)

i'd let it break first, engines are peanuts to buy for those.

he'll need a specialist to look at it tbh, or someone who is mechanicly minded.

i would have a gander but he's miles away

I know dude I paid 150 for my engine and a little extra for all service parts then did it myself when mine died... But truth be told it is either going to cost him a bomb in labour or do it himself which I don't think Luke would do from memory...

Luke pm Dan@SJM as you are closer to him than I am and I'm trusting him to do my belts and tensioners next month :)

thats cheap, cheap dci engines are complete bottom end knockers for 400quid. i forked out near 1K for a complete recon engine :S
ahwell it'll outlive me now.

dan will sort it if he gets it checked. labour wouldnt be to much to chuck another d4f in with the belts done before installing

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
Its been down to a specialist before, about 6 months ago who noticed a leak on camshaft seal? I did top up my oil when engine was slightly warm.. so might just be all a misunderstanding! Checked this morning with a fully cold engine :)

Where is dan? Sure hes in Somerset!!!

it wont be the head gasket unless its been baked at some point due to running with no coolant? head gaskets don't really go on these engines in my experiance

I'd imagine that amount of usage is well within the tollerances specified by Renault.

If it's running ok and there's no visible signs of leakage I wouldn't be worried to be honest!
