Toms 330CD project...

Hi guys, thought I'd share my new 330CD with you and my plans for the future (copied and pasted from E46zone).


Gave it a quick wash and polish with SRP today while the sun was shining and took a few quick snaps (appologies for the black mark on each photo - camera has a fault )


Current spec:

• 330CD 204bhp engine
• 6 speed manual
• 157000 miles with full service history
• Electric memory sports seats
• Satnav/TV
• Xenons
• Parking sensors
• Cruise control
• Climate control

Plans:

• 6000k bulbs
• Lamin-x light tint for headlights/fogs/rear lights
• Carbon kidney grilles
• Replace NSF foglight (condensates) and surround (missing)
• Carbon rear diffuser
• Carbon BMW badges and wheel centres
• Carbon clubsport splitters
• Wheel refurb - unsure on whether to change the colour?
• Armrest
• Speaker upgrade - any recomendations?
• Ipod connectivity - possibly intravee
• Digital TV upgrade - any recomendations?
• Lower - undecided between Eibach prolines or coilovers
• 15mm spacers all round
• Custom exhaust from turbo back inc decat.
• Remap
• Fit other halfs number plate - looking at a 3/4 size front plate?

I'd love to run a 330CD for a while.

Loving the balance between performance and economy. Day to day the missus gets about 35mpg for her 2 mile a day commute, same if I'm driving for pleasure. Get around 40mpg if I do my 40 mile a day commute and 50mpg+ on a long run.

Its only on a long run where the 330CD is slightly better on fuel than a 1*2, its about even everywhere else, but it's just so much nicer to drive!

Very nice... Although I'd leave it as it is! (add the armrest and black grills) Think you could quite easily make it look super-chav with your list of plans specially with light tints and 3/4 plates.

Also, your car doesn't have factory xenons. Something to think about as although you have washers, you don't have the auto-levelling.

Cheap carbon badges and carbon splitters cheapen the look of the car really.

Out of your list this is what I'd do to it...

6000k bulbs (probably look for 4300 or 5000k HIDS)
Carbon kidney grilles (prob go for black.. I've got shiny black bmw performance ones on my 335d)
Replace NSF foglight (condensates) and surround (missing)
Wheel refurb - unsure on whether to change the colour?
Armrest
Speaker upgrade - any recomendations? (Keep std HU/Nav)
Ipod connectivity - possibly intravee
Digital TV upgrade - any recomendations?
Custom exhaust from turbo back inc decat.
Remap

Mid forget everything else I've deleted.. Mainly because it looks so nice and tidy as it is.

I'm looking at E39 530D's, I had a drive of a 330D and it really surprised me. Does this have swirl flaps? I think you are right on the edge of the engine revision at an 04 plate?

All coupes were the newer 204hp lump..

E39 5's have a slightly different engine spec to the E46's

This engine has had the swirl flaps removed and also has the later vortex style oil breather.

Don't think all coupes are 204bhp? The 204bhp came out around 53/04 plate

Yeah they were. The 204hp engine came into the saloon/touring first, a very small handful were even registered on 03 plates. But because cars sit in showrooms for ages etc I've seen early 184 saloons on 04/54's...

I was thinking that I recognised it too.

Hows the clutch and flywheel at those miles? Has it had a replacement?

Saw it on pistonheads and autotrader

Had a new clutch and dmf earlier this year

Do those and nothing else.

Looks good as it is. Anything else will just ruin a good car.
