I think this engine would look soooooo much better in my engine bay.

I'll do it once as a favour. :)

They look great, really nice colour.

Cheers

What powder coaters did you use tim and whats the cost?

Tadley Powder Coaters. All of that cost 80 quid including masking up, shot blasting etc.

Looks great. Can't beat powdercoated bits! I wish I'd done my rocker cover.

Yes, yes you should have. White wouldn't look as good though ;)

I'll politely decline :)

Great effort.

Cheers

Update on progress to date.

I collected the gearbox from Agency Transmissions on Thursday 4th September on my way to Birmingham for a meeting.

KA felt good with an LSD. Work paid for the mileage and saved on courier cost so win win

Safe to say I properly smashed the gearbox up  Maybe I should learn to heel and toe.... some mechanical sympathy etc

One of the oil rings snagged and needed to be replaced and the new rings took two weeks to be delivered so it's be a bit frustrating to say the least!

Popped into the garage today to check on progress and the engine is now built up :)

Gearbox waiting to be fitted

Unfortunately the clutch doesn't fit so waiting for a replacement to be delivered tomorrow.

All things going well hopefully the car will be running by Friday and run in in time for a trip up to RS Tuning on Tuesday.

Looks great :)

I like the grey on the engine.

Be good to see this on the road again.

I'm very happy with how the powdercoating looks. OEM+ I'd say :approve:

You must be getting excited mate :)

Are you sticking with the standard turbo for now then?

Sticking with the standard turbo as I couldn't get a hybrid sorted out.

No, don't see the point. That's the synchro's job lol

Have you sold your old decat Tim?

It's sold pending collection. I'll PM you if it falls through.

I have a complete engine with manifolds etc for sale if you want any other bits.

Grey on an engine is for hero's. :D

Knowsit :) Colour was inspired by your Phase 1.

Had a meeting at Celtic Manor yesterday so decided to visit Merlin Motorsport on the way back.

Ended up buying a 1litre Mocal catch tank, ITG breather filter and Odyssey race battery.

Still having issues with finding the correct clutch, hopefully it's sorted today.

Technical team have informed me the following LuK numbers:

R26: 624321109
R26.R: 624331609 (20% more plate pressure)

But there is a special note on the R part stating only for fitment with LuK flywheel 415046210 so this may be your issue?

Think that must be the issue then. The clutch fits the flywheel but the cover plate is to deep for gearbox to fit.

Got an oem clutch arriving on Monday so fingers crossed it fits.

I picked up the R26r clutch from Martins Renault this morning and dropped it off at the garage.

Check on progress after work and the engine and gearbox are now in the car :)

There was an issue with it getting spark so it only fired up briefly but it did sound good!

You are certainly making decent progress!

Who built and installed the engine for you?

Are you having it run in on the road or dyno?

  340i
I believe Paul at RST is mapping it / running it in.

Excellent.

I am planning to get my car recovered to RS Tuning when the engine goes in... throw Paul the keys and let him run it in / map at the same time.

I wouldn't trust myself to drive a few hundred miles on the road running in the new engine

You must be doing the initial start up to temp and drop oil though?

Mine will be going RS once its all built too

My friend Mike who owns A Welsh Motors in Basingstoke has built it all.

I'm going to run it in on the road then drive it to RS Tuning for mapping.

Plan is mineral oil for first 500 miles, changing after running engine for 20 minutes, then after driving 25, 100 and 500 miles. Then change the mineral oil for something decent.

I believe Paul at RST is mapping it / running it in.

Looks good Tim, where is the mocal catch tank going?

It'll go where the battery is now but we haven't worked out how to mount it yet with the Odyssey.

Problem at the moment is the engine isn't getting any spark. Looks like an immobiliser issue.

hmmm... has the battery been disconnected for awhile?

Does the central locking still unlock / open the car? - If so, try cycling through lock.. unlock a few times, then jump in the car, key in the slot and try it then.

Battery has been disconnected since the start of August. Central locking still works fine.

Whats the battery charge like?

Any messages coming up on the dash?

Everything connected to the ECU and battery terminals (there is a single LIVE wire that I've seen break off the terminal before)
