Time Attack Build Begins (Cage in!!!)

  GDI Demo 182, Rsi Spider
main issue is extended load under really high rpm..

they are no wossener, they are Iapel.

shafts dont seem to have a problem if your not using slicks, never had a problem with R888's etc.

oil return channels seem to be the problem, supply doesnt seem to be a problem... its getting the oil out of the head back to the block... but again only with extended high RPM

we have removed the really horrible casting marks... as they are well "horrible"...

valves are ok until again really high extended rpm... only had one engine drop a valve.... and that was not a new engine..

be interested in your build... keep in touch

I saw hissingsid valves from his NA engine... LOL think he had eaten about 4 engines with them dropping off!

The problem is that they are a two piece valve, all the ones hissingsid had failed were on the joint.

I had some imported from a specialist in Europe, 1 piece stainless, they were about half a grand for all 16, not too much and worth it for the piece of mind.. are you only allowed one engine to last the whole series?

I hope you are passing on all the advice you are getting on building a race engine to GDI.
I would hate to think that you put all your trust in the pro's...

coming in on this a tad late, massive respect although as a road car i expect it won't make for comfortable mile crunching lol ;)

do the rules state you must keep the original engine? thought about scrapping the piss french one and going for a jap or german one?

As you've done all but revamped the engine mounting position could that have been an option?

Also I can't really tell from the pics but is the suspension standard? Are you even allowed to fit aftermarket suspension in this catagory.... doing camber and toes adjustments could help shave a few miliseconds off also...... Talking to the converted obviously but i'm quite interested to find out a bit more....

hope you dont mind mat but im still awake and im bored so -

Cue - Most of that stuff is in hand, it wont be on standard suspension, its going to have a full set up etc

To mount the engine lower like in a cup race car your looking at 1k for the renaultsport mounts

You can put any engine in you like. Depending on whether its N/A or Forced will depend on which category you go into (so pretty pointless going with a turbo lump as will never keep up with thte 4WD guys).

I didnt really consider it to be honest, as the extra cost and hassle would be a knightmare. Plus if anything broke (ie custom mounts) it would be more of a hassle to source another quickly.

Also i like the french engine french car idea.

Suspension is fully sorted, will be low and hard, perfectly setup for track work!

i was thinking maybe the 2 ltr lump out of s2000. Perfect for high revving track work and more reliable starting block to play with.

Depends on budget though... any engine..... stick an old M5 engine in the bugger and watch the 3000GT's, Superas quake :)

engine characteristics of V-tecs are a bit shitty though. F7R high comp build with ITB's will be miles more drivable not to mention more powerful with a much much bigger power band... and probably cheaper! lol

plus i want to beat people with good old Renault power, rather than them saying 'you only quicker cos of Honda power' or wahtever.

I think the point is that it's a clio, and the intention is to race a clio.
What's the point in transplanting some Honda engine into it? It's no longer a clio then. Might aswell keep the jap in the crap, and race that....

Were you running the brake lines that came with the compbrake 4 pots before?

i was, with thier comedy length.

then i read that someone said the standard Clio goodridge kit works fine, so got one of those, but alas the lines were a tad too short, so they pulled hard under full lock.

so got onto goodridge and they did me a set to my lengths.

Yes they are very long :S

How much did goodridge want for the custom hoses??

less of the spam ladies!!

Bout 35 quid for lines direct from goodridge, any length, any ends etc.

might as well phone them direct, as i assume thats all Yozzasport will do!

explains the tyre choice lol. i run r888's on track and have noticed a good second or more lap improvement with slicks.
