P0136, P0225 and P0115

  1.2 16v Dynamique
Car: 2002 1.2 Clio Dynamique

Had a few issues with my car over the last few months, had a new throttle which sorted the problems for a while but it's been playing up again. Someone in my street has a fault code reader and it's come back with the codes below, I've done a little bit of research but I'm looking for clarification and a few tips before I go wasting time and money!

P0136 - Oxygen 02 Sensor Circuit Malfunction / Low Voltage??
P0225 - Throttle position sensor maybe??
P0115 - Engine Coolant Temperature??

I may be wrong with those so I'm looking for a bit of help if you could please guys! I've always thought it may be the Lambda sensor, not sure why, just after reading around that's the impression I get!

Thanks guys!

what problems have you had??

i would pay the 30 odd quid to go to a specialist and get a proper full diagnostics

saves messing about

I'm not with my car it's back home and i'm in uni, plus it's pretty much un-drivable, keeps going into limp mode and then not even starting, it's a nightmare! I had it put on the clip at K-Tec where they then changed the pedal but this seems to be a different issue, I'd like to try and sort it on the drive first before paying £30 to plug it in and get pretty much the same codes! I don't really have much choice at the minute though!

Apart from getting it looked at, what would you guys recommend?

for more info I started a thread a while back describing my issues, that can be found here... http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?563147-Throttle-Body-or-Temp-sensor&highlight=

Cheers guys!

if its a different issue then you will have different codes

the problem is that code readers are pish

have you tried replacing the temp sensor??

seems as though you are going into limp mode once the car is warm and then when you leave it and it has cooled slightly it is running fine until it warms up again??

Um kind of I think, it always seem to happen after I turn the engine off and come back to the car. Temperature sensor an easy/cheap job?

P0225 - TPS/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch C Circuit Malfunction
P0115 - Engine Coolant Temp Circuit Malfunction

Sounds like an in loom electrical problem or a bad earth to me. As above, check connections first for obvious signs of corrosion/water ingress then expand the search to look for signs of obvious damage to wires and busted earth points.

I'm back home with the car now as it's Easter. Due to the problems and it's been sat there a while, it no longer has insurance or an MOT so I need to try and do as much as I can myself, if I can't fix it, I'll insure it, take it to a garage for it's MOT and for them to try and fix it, but that's a last resort! I don't think there is anything majorly wrong with it as it starts and runs fine after all this time, I think it's fixable without going to the garage!

I'm going to check the wiring loom to begin with, it's at the back of the engine right? Easy to get to?

Thanks!

sounds like normal 1.2 16v problem to me- the plug(with metal cover) on the ecu at the back of the inlet manifold is the one to look at, the glue renault use on the wires melts and causes a bad connection to the ecu. with the plug removed you will see the glue stuck all over the ecu pins. the fix is to clean the ecu pins and replace the engine loom with a new renault loom i think it was £170+vat and 2-3 hours to fit. hope that helps.

That does help a lot thank you! More expensive than I was hoping for but I'll take a look none the less. 'm hoping this isn't the case to be honest with you and it comes down to a lambda sensor or something! How easy is the ecu to get at, where is it placed?

Thanks for you help!

Bump.

I think I'm going to start by changing the lambda sensor that goes into the cat, is that the right one? (Bank 1 Sensor 2?) Silly question but is that called pre or post cat lambda?

Cheers!
