Only One Key

I have just brought my 1st Clio 182 - however it only came with one key. I'm based in Leicester.

When i unlock the car get in, but not put the keys in the ignition after 10-15 seconds the car locks its self again?? is this normal or is there anyway to extend the time? worried if i accidentally leave the key in the car i won't be getting it back without breaking a window.

Can anyone recommend or advise where i go to get a second key cut and coded? it it a main dealer only? or are there specialists to go to?

That doesn't sound right mate. The standard auto lock system locks after a about a minute driving (if switched on).

Keys can be had from a Renault but looking at £120 + or you can try a decent locksmith - take the car to them and you're looking at £75 to £100 for a new key with button. Or you can buy a second hand complete ecu key kit for anything up to £100 (try eBay).

Buy a new blank key from ebay (item number 172024159525) , anyone with a clip system can code it in as long as they have the immobiliser code.
We Charge £45 for key coding and that includes code.
Blank can be cut outside your local tesco etc.

Mike@rentech - sorry to ask but where will i find the immobiliser code? or would you need the original key?

mossyv6 - its like the auto lock function is working very quickly - does anyone know if it can be changed? or do you think i have a faulty module?

Sounds like a door sensor might be playing up - the auto lock should only work if you unlock, but don't open any of the doors/boot, or when you go over 9/10mph if you set it..

Does the interior light activate on the door opening?

budgie - car is completely stripped (by pervious owner) so no interior light - so might be the door sensor.

Yep, check the door sensors then IMO. Sounds like they're not plugged in/not working IMO.
