My BG 182 Clio daily driver R18 TWO

hi guys, my names Adam and this thread is for my black gold clio 182. the main reason i'm making it is just to keep a log off all the work i'm doing to her and it is always handy to have one of these threads if i ever came to selling them car (which won't be anytime soon). as it is at the minute the car is at on 56K miles so reasonably low miles and is my daily car. the car itself is in great condition, with a few little niggles here and there, like the steering wheel melting/falling apart at the thumb grips. when i got the car it had about 800 pounds just spent on it on new discs and pads all round, a new exhaust (patterned item, not performance exhaust) and other bits and peices.

i've only had one reasonably major problem with it and that was the day after i got it, the ABS light come on during some reasonably hard braking which turned out to be a snapped reluctor ring so that got replaced the next day. other than that it has it's usual annoying behind dashboard rattles but i may think about trying to sort that problem some time in the future.

my plans are to next month, carry out a full service, cambelt kit & aux belt kit change with dephaser and a new CV boot that it got an advisory on it's last MOT, using all renault parts. i have already bought some anthracite 182 wheels which look great and a cooksport spring set, but i will not be fitting these until around november time.

when my insurance is up for renewal in november i plan to:
fit cooksport springs
use my anthracite wheels with some brand new michelin pilot sports
buy a better condition steering wheel and fit k-tec carbon fibre thumb grips and lower badge
k-tec carbon fibre front splitter
k-tec supersport exhaust
k-tec rear anti-roll bar kit
k-tec induction kit
RS Tuner re-map
possibly get a cup pack rear spoiler too but i am unsure which i prefer at the minute.
possible carbon fibre dash covers too just so the steering wheel grips match up.

i said to myself when i first got the car i'm not going to modify it :)

so anyway here's some pics of the car when i picked it up, since then i have also removed the horrible fake carbon fibre from the front grill.

Re: My BG 182 Clio daily driver

Looks clean mate. Cup spoiler and front splitter will make it look loads better :)

Will you be doing the work yourself or taking it to a specialist?

Re: My BG 182 Clio daily driver

thanks, sadly it is not in as great condition now, afew stone chips here and there because of a rubbish road surface i have to keep driving on almost everyday. i'll be doing all the work myself, i'm a full time mechanic so it shouldn't be too hard *hopefully*.

one thing i forgot to add to my list is that i am also thinking of spraying the bullets and badges the same color anthracite as the wheels but i'm not sure yet as i don't know whether i will like it.

thanks

Re: My BG 182 Clio daily driver

here's a little update of stuff i have got or is in the post on its way to me:
182 cup anthracite wheels
4x new michelin pilot sports
cooksport lowering springs
carbon fibre hand brake cover
carbon fibre speaker covers
carbon fibre dash strips
carbon fibre traction control panel (thanks again dr jekyll for all of the above carbon bits)
carbon fibre rear bumper insert (unsure on whether to use it at the minute but will decide later on)
k-tec carbon fibre front splitter
k-tec induction kit
k-tec supersport exhaust
whiteline rear anti-roll bar
genuine timing belt kit
genuine aux belt kit
genuine dephaser
genuine complete service kit
genuine engine locking tools
renault sport mats

there's probably something i've missed of the list. i will be doing the cambelt and service bits over the next couple of weeks when it all arrives. all the modifictaion parts may be getting fit at the same time if the insurance cost isn't crazy, if not then it will all be getting fitted around november.

other parts i am still wanting to buy:

RS tuner
steering wheel re-trim
cup rear spoiler

once all of these parts have been fitted the car will just about be how i want it.

Re: My BG 182 Clio daily driver

small update, i have my new wheels and tyres all ready to go on the car now and next week i am doing a full service and cambelt change. also got my new reg number fitted today!

Re: My BG 182 Clio daily driver

nice, wondered where that plate ended up, I was half tempted to buy it but didn't have the cash at the time :)

I have colour coded to wheels bullets, I love them :)

Re: My BG 182 Clio daily driver

sounds like its gonna be spot on once you've finished with it! i'd go with bullets the same colour as the wheels, it looks a lot better imo :)

fitted new cambelt kit, dephaser, aux belt kit, water pump, oil & filter, spark plugs & new coolant. the cambelt was all timed up with the genuine renault tools and runs better that what it did before i did the cambelt. it pulls like crazy in 2nd to 3rd compared to what it used to and feels like the top end RPM is much more responsive and powerful.

things i'm wanting to do over the next few days are:
clean the filthy seatbelts
change the C.V. boots
fit cooksport springs and new wheels and tyres
replace broken rear seat belt guide (on it's way in post)
restore headlights
touch up paint
do full exterior detail to try and get rid of some slight swirl marks in the paintwork.

thanks

Nice plate, if i had kept the clio i think i would of bought it myself!
thanks

i touched the paint up today in some areas that required it, i also did the headlight restoration and they look much better than before, i used the 3m kit and it doesn't even really take that long to do. dependent on the weather i will do some more things that need doing tomorrow but at the minute it is forecast for rain.

right, i haven't updated this in a little while so here goes. i have fitted my k-tec exhaust and induction kit now and it sounds great! it's blowing at the cat olive joint though so i will be removing the cat at some point and welding some straight pipe on to it to joint it to my exhaust. it sounds hilarious when over 3,000 RPM, it literally sounds like a turbo spooling up.

tomorrow i will be doing some more work to it hopefully. tomorrow i plan too:
remove my front bumper to clean out the pipe for the nearside front headlamp washer as it isn't working and also remove my nearside headlight to sort out the headlight leveller motor.
fit carbon front splitter
fit a new rear seatbelt guide (passenger side rear one has snapped somehow)
fit the pollen filter i constantly keep forgetting to do!
possibly fit whiteline rear anti-roll bar
possibly sort out exhaust blowing.

i have a cup rear spoiler in black gold on it's way over to me and a RS tuner and once i have got the steering wheel re-trimmed and sorted out a few niggles with the car it will pretty much be exactly how i want it!

i'll try get some pics tomorrow after i have fitted the front splitter, should make the car look loads better at the front.

thanks

Coming on nicely this!

I was eye'ing up that plate aswell but didn't have the cash at the time.
thanks!

i've got alot more done to the car then i thought i would have done so far. when i originally bought it i told myself i was going to keep it standard and look where that got me, haha.

i managed to sort the washers out, headlight aim and fit the carbon splitter today, i will add some pics tomorrow and possibly some pics from when i did the cambelt too

thanks

here's some pics, i never got to clean it before night came sadly.

i think when i have completed my list of things i wanted to do to the car i will move on to tidying up the engine bay, it isn't looking great in the pics above!

thanks

sooooooo, today i RStuned her up, it runs abit smoother now but i am yet to try it from cold. i didn't really notice any power increase but i wasn't really driving fast when i drove it.

i also sorted out the rear seat fold down buttom/seatbelt guide and cleaned my front seat belts and they are much nicer now. i forgot to take a pic of what they look like after i cleaned them!!!

driving from cold now is much better! however a fault code (no warning light on though) has now come up for my rear lambda sensor so i will sort the cat joint blowing and do some diagnosis before i go diving in and replacing the lambda sensor.

i have just had abit of a drive out to collect and drop off some parts and it feels abit more powerful especially with the rev limiter changed with the RS tuner

thanks

This is a tidy looking car and it shows you care for it.
The 98Ron map was an awesome little modification to my car too and I hope you're enjoying the results too. :) I found it made the car far more usable in the lower range.

thanks, i need to spend a day or two sometime soon and give it a good detailing and a proper waxing, but saying that i may wait until after winter. i need more pics of what it looks like now! i don't think i even have a pic of the back end with the new exhaust fitted

it definatly runs better with the 98Ron map and the power feels awesome right up at the rev limiter, i haven't noticed much low end difference at the minute.

thanks

hi, my clio cup spoiler arrived today, i got it off ebay and when i opened it i saw the paintwork had so many scratches in it. i have done about 15-20 polishes with autoglym super resin polish and it's looking good now (i don't have any other cutting polishes) i might fit it tomorrow, i will try and get a before and after pic too if i can remember!

i still need to sort the exhaust blowing but i plan to do that tomorrow too dependant on my back and also fit my new air-con control screen/panel as mine has got an LED out on the screen.

also i have got a snappy steering wheel getting sorted soon so i don't have to put up with the horrible melted steering wheel and torn thumb grips for much longer

thanks

cleaned the car today and decided to get some pics:

i've stopped the exhaust blowing now and it sounds great does! i have fitted the cup spoiler now too.

i'm also unsure on whether or not too get carbon front and rear renault badges, what do you guys think?

thanks

merry christmas everyone! as of 2am this morning i have snapped my k-tec carbon splitter into 2 peices and cracked my front bumper :( i had a rabbit run in front of me on my home from picking the girlfriend up from work. it was only a small thing and i wasn't going at any great speed but it clean snapped my splitter into 2 peices and cracked my bumper.

i'm going to have to sort out another bumper and maybe another carbon splitter. i'll add some pics up in the next couple of days from the damage.

thanks guysy, yours is looking good too!

Unlucky mate, rabbits are harder than you think!

Did the same to a hare, except I was going a little bit quicker...needless to say the A/C rad, bumper AND carbon splitter were a write off!

here's some pics of the damage!

my MOT is due too so that will be getting done at my work over the next couple of days

i'm trying to find another black gold bumper and i will probably order a new carbon splitter too when i sort a bumper out. i think at the same time as ordering the splitter i may order a de-cat and a couple of other bits

thanks

i did actually see an inferno 182 the other day at euro car parts, it had 1.2 bullets though so i was confused and couldn't tell if it was actually a 182 or a rep.

i also saw a inferno 182 drive around the corner from my house once but i think you commented on my spotted thread and you said it wasn't you from memory.

so today i have fitted my rear anti roll bar after about 3 months of having it, haha, i haven't really tested it as such but the car does feel abit better through corners with it. i was also going to replace a corroded brake pipe and change my brake fluid before my MOT, but that back fired abit so i am going to get a genuine brake pipe and hose from renault and change to DOT 5.1 fluid. i might also buy some braided brake hoses too but i am unsure whether i will or not at the minute. i don't really have loads else left to do/buy for it to be how i want it, although the list does seam to keep on growing. i still need to buy a carbon splitter and bumper too.

thanks

Haha that would of been me, I put some on for a little while. Well at the moment my car is normally parked somewhere down Heworth Green as I work near the Sainsburys
