NJ.

Heres what ive been upto recently, 5.5" narrowed beam with adjusters welded in. Had to weld a couple of small holes in the towers and cut down the bottom edge so i can go low

P4060372.jpg

Then got it mounted, its on the original bolts atm but will be replacing them as the threads are fooked

P4080375.jpg

P4090378.jpg

Got all the best ball joints together, fitted the steering damper, box and kyb shocks i picked up for free :)

Cleaned up the various bearings and cylinders etc

P4100387.jpg

will take the backing plates to be sandblasted, as i was told the brake shoes contained aspestos?

Found this spring in the hub aswell :S, remember hearing a crunching sound - turns out its obv not the wheel bearing

Thought i'd better keep the little nub above the original panel, althought im not entirely sure what it does

welded up tho

:D the welding isnt that great, the repair panel is so thin a seam weld will just keep blowing through

its not all spattered up thought, i just hadnt cleaned up the welds

hoping to get it on the road this year but i dont really have a deadline

Decided i'd take my heater channels apart today, they are the cheap heritage panels. Thought i'd show you just how good they are

From the outside they are ok, shoddy quality but clean...although once i drilled the spot welds out all is revealed

They are unpainted inside! and just to clarify these havent been sitting in my back bedroom for years these are brand new

found my captive nut rolling around in there aswell

P4120411Medium.jpg

will sand all that rust back before redoing welds and painting, also have plans to make some thicker bottom plates

would like to change out the heater tube aswell, dont know what material to use though...maybe a silicon tube? the idea is to stop condensation caused by the hot air traveling through the pipe

More progress

Managed to get the these bits seperated from the channels, do they even have a name?

P5020482Medium.jpg

Then sanded them back to bare metal inc the channels themselves, metal readied, then painted in red led - will have an over coat plus wax oyl before assembly

Cut out some new bottom plates aswell using the old ones as templates

--------------------------------

Gearbox time

Managed to get the short axles of out the old box, one was on so tight...this was because of a bearing for some reason

took this out of the new box and then the shorts went in

Touch down!

Although the side plates are leaking, looks like i'll need to clean the sides up and seal the gaskets..

Picked up this trolley at the carboot for 1.50£, works great as an engine trolley

P4190424Medium.jpg

Got the front ball joints on aswell as the spindles but need to find nuts to fit them before i can get the wheels on

P4250471Medium.jpg

As my time is split up i do bits at home so heres my side projects, using the old door panels which are in excellent cond for 43 yo. Made new backs from 3mm hardboard, £2 from b&q

Stunning dude, hats off. Proper project, none of this modified Clio crap!

More.... I need more!!

I'm currently working out how to finance a '71 beetle which has already had the important bits done to it... All I need to do is the mechanicals!

Cheers guys will update asap, having internet probs atm, but still cracking on with bodywork

fubar- if youve got a solid chassis, the mech's are a piece of piss tbh :)

The only thing stopping me from buying it is I have nowhere to store it while im getting it up to A1 condition :(

As said a fair few times before now, epic work mate

I'm currently rebuilding mine aswell, but i don't have so much work as you do, i've only got the spare wheel well and rear bumper fixings to replace, all the rest is fairly rust free.
It should be repainted though, but i think i'll go along the rat route ;) combined with some porsche inflences.

What direction are you going, oe, cal-look, Deutsches style???

keep up the good work
