MY 2004 CLIO 182

  2004 clio 182
today i did some maintenance of the wiper mechanism and investigated a tiny little leak coming through on the passenger side so removed the scuttle panel, wiper unit, washer bottle etc.
i imediatley found the issue causing the leak, somebody had left and old wiper washer pump in the drain hole lol.so wierd to see but hey.

next i removed the e-clips on the wiper mechanism and copper greased all the pivots.........

have modded the bulk head tonight to accept the air filter piping through it.had the idea yesterday to route the pipework so that the airfilter is up in the bulk head away from heat. heres what i did.

you will notice i have cut out the slats (6 cut out) and also that the coolant bottle isnt currently attached. Coolant bottle will be remounted tommorow and i will also make a little mini scoop thing just about the slats i cut out to catch the air better.

The noise is so much more throaty now. what a noise !!!! :) sounds like its on bodys !!!

today i made my way down to colchester way to my mapping appointment with andy at engine dynamics (renault specialists).

first of i gotta say andys a great guy, very knowledgeable and has time to actually explain what hes doing and why and all the details inbetween.

on the way there i managed 47mpg from an hour away which was brill.

so onto the important part......my clios now on 129 thousand miles and has a decat and air filter.

andy checked up the map that was on there and it was from amd in thurrock (have dyno graph here from previous owner) and andy wasnt happy with many aspects of it really.

amongst other things he :

stopped the grogyness when cars cold
sorted out lean spots and fueling issues
removed decat engine light issue
raised revs to 900 rpm to smooth idle
raised rev limiter to 7,500 rpm
increased ignition in certain areas
improved throttle responsiveness

heres the graph .the dotted lines before and the solid is after

im extremely happy with what hes done.the increased torque through the fueling fix has helped alot for driveablity and revs out lovely.

while i was up there i purchased a poly bush dogbone mount and also upper engine polybush.

whilst i was doin engine mount obviously the cambelt was visable so had a good nosey at that and it looks to be in very good order.

this morning i went about securing the expansion tank.made a small bracket and removed some plastic from it so it would fit.
OFExKmM.jpg

vKgF65s.jpg

admitidley yes its on with one bracket now but its secured and also i am running coolant at just over the minimum so its not heavy anyway.

also i removed the rear badges on the left. the "renault" and "sport".

GpTs1FP.jpg

this badge removal took a little while as it left double sided tape residue and scraping it of with finger nails is the only way to do it without damaging paint work.once that was removed then took a good 25 mins of t-cutting and finally a coat of fusso wax.

saturday i had an abs/traction light both come on.tonight i swapped out the passenger side one for a new one and taken it for a drive and they are all out now so hopefully thats sorted that out.i cleaned up the abs ring with file and wire brush as it was really crudy.took me like 30 mins to get the old sensor out as it was fused in the hole.as u can see i have copper greased the crap out of the new one lol.

today i got my exhaust done. when i say done i mean firstly i got realigned so it stops banging on the f**king rear beam which its done since i got it months ago and drives me mad.Secondly i had a different style of backbox fitted as i recently found that the toyosports one i had was chambered.
I sourced a motorcycle backbox off of an rsv millie. Its 2 and half inch all the way through and straight through most importantly.
sounds gorjus and to me it looks superb,so happy with it.

(NOTE) how clean the car is underneath !!!!!!!!!!!

Great project and read so far mate!

Have never seen the filter there before. Be interesting to see if it makes anymore performance and noise difference to the normal way of putting it behind the headlight with an "S" bend.

  2004 clio 182
Thanks alot dude.

The noise difference is huge. Very loud, sounds like throttle bodies. Performance wise I haven't a clue.prob naff all haha

  2004 clio 182
this morning i cleaned up the gearbox mount (after removing it) and sprayed it in alloy flavour spray paint.
definately worth the 20 or so mins to do it

had the clio weighed at local weigh bridge today. came in at this......................

this weight is with myself in the car and i weigh 82kgs !!!

  2004 clio 182
also had my exhaust altered as there is a restriction in it which can cause a little to much back pressure according to andy @ engine dynamics.so this was removed and also the centre box has been removed .

update,
i had my clutch done on friday by engine dynamics.the car was left with them at 8am sharp and i had a phone call at 3pm saying it was done.

i had a 5 puck paddle clutch fitted which i have been reliably told by andy at engine dynamics tat they are good for 300 ftlbs torque.
i also had a surface ground and balanced flywheel fitted to makesure i get the most of the clutch, and from past experience i know that fitting a new clutch without addressing an action on flywheel doesnt end well lol.
new flywheel bolts where also used and lastly whilst they where under there i had new polybushed anti roll bar bushes.

As snetterton is fast approaching I am making my way through a list of stuff to do to the clio.

Started making up brake cooling pipework.

60mm pipe on a 63mm metal sleeve

  2004 clio 182
i have my track day tommorow at snetterton circuit.
i abandoned the brake cooling ducts i was making as i went down the lanes few nights ago and couldnt get any brake fade whatsoever.
i have however made up my scuttle panel airbox which took an hour or so to make.
its a hard fixed box / divider sicaflexed into place to seperate any hot air away from airfilter, the big scoop i recently made diverts fresh cold air into the box
theres a brand new k&n airfilter in there also.

also done all my checks

brakes checked
oil level
brake fluid level
transmission oil level
wheel nuts tight
tyre pressures
coolant level
spares of all oils and fluids above.........

will be videoing as always

Going down country lanes and track are two very different things. I used to live out in the "sticks" and I could never get fade. Then I did two laps of Blyton and nearly went through a hedge Hahaha.

Good luck though buddy! Hope it all goes well. I need to try snett

  2004 clio 182
well snetterton was a success,
the car was faultless and did really well, i only had a small amount of brake fade........As you can imagine i was absolutely giving it all the stick i could.
the track was really reallly wet and slippery as hell, i would compare it to driving on pretty much ice lol
i managed to tot up 125 miles on track and i have videos and photos to come soon.

i hit 135mph on the back straight and 125 mph on pit straight which i wasnt expecting especially in damp conditions.
i managed 8 mpg on track
havent checked how quick i was getting round but will check my videos/time stamps.

was a great track to do and would highly recommend it.

Was so much fun especially with my friends in there 182s !

I haven't anymore pics of the air box.the scoop piece (the lid so to speak ) of the box is a few posts back.the sound is great that comes from the box as it reverberates.love it
