Lovely "Custom" Ford Puma

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
You're welcome to quote me as saying I think a 1.7 puma is a better value if you like mate.
Ive never at any point said its a better car though, you seem to have got me confused with someone else, what I said was:

As a straight "is this car better than the other" though, of course not, ford DID improve the puma, just not enoguh to justify the cost difference

There's no doubt the FRP is a cracking car, a friend of mine had one back in the day and i loved it, but the way gally bangs on about them being TheMostAmazingCarInTheBendsEver is starting to wear a bit thin tbh, laughable even.

I can undestand someone being passionate and sticking up for their car to a point (i get it all the time in MX5, the usual hairdresser comments from people who haven't driven one) but rest assured there would be no clio's barrell rolling into fields trying to keep up with a FRP, certainly not with gally behind the wheel.

Take the rose tinted specs off and you've got a slightly tweaked puma that's barely any quicker than the standard car, more compareable with a fiesta st than an RS clio imo.

Exactly, its as good a job as you could really expect a tuning department to do considering they werent allowed to turbo or fit a bigger engine etc, within the confines of what they were allowed to do, its a reasonable result.
But if you listened to Gally only on the subject and had never driven one you would think it was far more different to the 1.7 puma its based on than an escort cosworth is versus a base model escort, LOL

No idea on gallys driving, but have to agree that a clio RS is just as capable in the bends as an FRP, about the only thing the FRP is likely to win on performance wise is out braking it.

Its a little more than just that, its a little quicker, handles a litle better, brakes a lot better.

But a base model escort isn't a sports car in any way shape or form. A standard puma was a sports car to start with!

Let's face it though, they're not THE best handling cars in the world, will not decimate all in it's path etc but people start getting arsey if somebody has an interest in something that's not a clio.

/TWISTEEEZZ

Again, it's probably because quite often people that join an owners club whilst not actually owning the car only join to start arguements.

You cannot dispute that the Clio is a very capable car, even more so when you factor the price into it.

I don't see the issue with Gally going on about how good his car is when the subject comes up. Pretty sure he isn't demanding that anyone buys one. He's just enthusiastic about his car. Hardly a crime on a car forum. It is a fact that if he kept banging on about his Trophy, no one would have a word to say.

LOL, ok sure. People join for other reasons than the tin cans the site is dedicated to.

Anyway, how people can harp on about clios in the corners, and then say that somebody else who harps on about another car that isn't a clio is boring is amazingly hypocritical.

Couple of things it's the not the best car evererer. The Trophy imo is a better car.

The barrel-rolling comment was more to do with bodyroll rather than actually being able to keep up.

Sadly i'm not a quick driver. I'm much too afraid of the outcome should something go wrong. Due to the job I do I think it's made me a slow driver. I always said i'd like someone decent to drive it and show me how good it is.

Thr last comment I have to take issue with. At the time of release it was compared a few times with the 172 and came out on top minus the price of course.

As I pointed out early in a small test with the same driver the Frp was almost 2 seconds quicker round pembery so it's very very much comparable to the 172 imo.

There's being enthusiastic, then there's being blinkered beyond belief.

"It was a road going rally car."

"There are £100,000 cars that won't turn heads as much as the FRP does."

More such jibberish nonsense from gally aka Frp' can be found here

Worth a read if you fancy a giggle.

Mate, even compared to the RS2000 the Csoworth model escort is a MASSIVE difference.

For a start the engine is sat in the bay the other way around, is a totally different engine, is turbo'd and running on a logitudinal 4wd system, thats making dramatic changes to the engine and transmission, a set of cams, an inlet, a remap and an optional lsd isnt.

FLOL!

His car may be a little bit special, but clearly he is VERY "special" himself.

Iirc there were a couple of CS members in that thread.

Did you get a read at my reply to your posts before Col?

I think a lot of my problem is the Frp imo is a car that needs to be driven to form an decent opinion. If you don't like it that's fine but don't shout it down like it's a bad car.

It's hard to explain, I just feel it's not the kind of car that you can offer an opinion without driving it. Bit like the V6. People assume it can't handle. People assume the Frp is just a 1.7 with a bodykit.

Lol if that is actually Gally, bless him!

If it is I really am amused at the fact he thought THIS was a real quite:

I love my FRP more than my 22B. In fact, take the 22B away, I don't want it anymore. This pure-bred rally specimen is all I could ever need.

Seriously, even someone with FRP underpants on must realise that was blatantly someone taking the piss!

I knew that wasn't a real quote mate. It stemmed from the Colin Mcrae quote I had heard about. Turns out he was working for Ford when he said good things anout the Frp.

Frp' is me. I never said anything about Road going rally car. If you read the thread i'm sure you'll see this.

The other guy is an owner I don't know of.

I never said the FRP was a bad car, quite the opposite infact, i've got a lot of respect for them.

It was actually a good thread once I had taken my Frp pj's off.

Well give it another year and you'll probably feel the same about some of the rubbish you post on CS as well, LOL

He's seem to have an even bigger knock to the head than you have! He makes you look almost like you arent chatting nonsense by comparison.

Roy Munson, Looks like Muhammad Ali is still at the top of his game compared to Gally, LOL

TBH there isn't really anything in there that isn't in here. I don't see the significance of the link.

In this thread we havent had Gally saying that he genuinely believed Colin Mcrae thinks that a ford puma is more of a rally car than his 22b, we would've have missed that Gem if it wasnt for the link.

It wasn't aimed at you Col tbh. It was more about the reason the owners defend it like we do.

People forget all the way through this thead that i'm not claiming it's the greatest hatchback/coupe ever made.

There are lots of better cars out there. I'm simply defending it as an owner when people claim it's only a tweaked Puma and that a 172 is not only better but more special.

We all know since the PH link what in this thread is truely "special" mate

You dont even need a puma to outrun a 22b, you can do it all on your own :)

Reading that back you're right mate. I apologise. It wasn't nieve, I had heard before that thread that Mcrae said good things about the Frp. I just blindly thought the guy had found the quote on the net.

In hindsight he was ripping the utter urine!
