knocking noise under load

Just been out in my mk2 172 today pulled away from lights a bit sharpish on greasy road heard a knocking from front n/s first thought was drive shaft but it only does it if the wheel loses traction if i pull away a little more gently then gun the throttle no noise any suggestions

I think you'll find all 172s do this if you stand on the loud pedal too quickly - but I can't elaborate further. Did it knock three or four times? I now think of it as a training programme that teaches you to put the power down correctly.
