how do i fix this pipe? (with photos)

  182 cup
hi i have a power steering leak and ive worked out where it is leaking from

im going through bout a litre of fluid evry 100miles and even less if there is plenty of corners on the way

does lose any on straight roads though just obviously when the pump is turning and the pressure in the system increases eg.. 3 point turns

i have taken photos of the exact pipe and point where i believe the leak to be

i know the whole pipe is expensive to replace and fit so i wondered if there is any way to fix it as its not in a very awkward place.

its just at the the bottom under the car and is easy to access from beneath

anyone know or had a similar problem and how did they get it sorted

ive spent nearly £20 on power steering fluid in 2 weeks grrrr

thanks guys

Not a cheap item unfortunately, thats the high pressure feed from the pump to the rack so needs to be right and hence expensive. Part number is 60 00 073 688 and £171 or thereabouts.

scrappys it is then, if i got that from my local scrappy he wouldnt know it was worth 171

Finding one will be the problem unless your scrappys are far superior to mine, that and its not a 5 min job to get out and you need to get underneath the car to unbolt it from the rack iirc.

duct tape ftw, or remove power steering. i recon scrappy would be better, or local hydraulics company, they're usually bang on and quite cheap.

The two realistic options i'd say are either bite the bullet and get one from renault or try a local power steering/hydraulics specialist they might be able to fabricate a replacement or repair that but I doubt that type of crimped end is saveable once it starts leaking.

its alot of money to spend on a car ive actually got up for asale at the minute for £4000 as ive lost my job

is there no way it could be welded?

i dont know if the leak is on the crimped part or on the metal pipe?

mine is corroded in the same place which renault uk said i'm the only one who has ever reported a corroded pipe on a cliosport, lol whatever

i've got one on route off a member on here who breaks them,it should be with me in the next coupe of days,if its the right one i'll pass his details onto you ;)

its £174 + vat for the pipe as its the main pipe from pump to rack,i went for a price last week and couldnt believe how much they were

cheers buddy look forward to hearing from you

i assume the pipe is the one on the left of the last picture??

thanks

This sounds like another common clio downfall ? :(

What material is the pipe made from ?

You'd think they'd make it out of a corrosion resistant material if it hangs that low to the round with all the s**t getting thrown at it

havin probs with a steering fluid leak too.
on the "2nd to last " photo .just above where he has drawn red. there is like a switch with a wire connector going into it..the switch screws into the fluid pipe
i cleaned all the pipe off and fluid is leaking from the switch itself.
is this a pressure sensor and how much? for the switch i mean. not the full pipework

it is the switch/sensor that is leaking that screws into the pipe. not the pipe itself.
i was wondering what this switch/sensor does
if it wasnt pressured then yeah some tape would be a quick fix,but if it is some sort of pressure sensor/switch then it must be under pressure?
and tape would last about 10 secs

take the pipe to some1 who services and repairs JCB's or anythin hydraulic and et them to just make you a flexi hose to match thats all i did when mine went on an old car. cost about £40 or so

i did say it was the switch that is leaking NOT THE PIPE
i was hoping for someone to tell me what the switch actually is and how much
surely i can buy just the switch and not have to mess about with the pipe
it does screw out.
cheers anyway mr j cake..
if it ends up i need a pipe i might just do that idea of yours
