FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHAT ELSE CAN GO WRONG ? PLEASE HELP

  ITB 428 Ph1
Hi

Yet again there is another problem with my 172 phase 1. It has been nothing but trouble, when I fix one problem another decides to arise.

This time, My engine management light has came on, as a result the car splutters but I can accelerate threw it. It seems to be worse in 2nd gear at around 2k and again T 5k RPM.

My friend plugged into my car with the diognostics at Renault and cleared the faults. I believe it came up with coil pack, fuel rail, and an oxygen sensor. He then deleted the faults and reset them.

However the light has come back on and it continues to splutter.

Today I tested a second hand coil pack and leads and it has made no difference at all. Has anyone suffered this before ? any ideas ?

Im sure if its the actual Renault computer they will be able to test sensors separately...!!!

why not just change the coil pack and see if that sorts it? im no mechanic but my car used to splutter and was worst in 2nd gear so i changed sparks and coil pack never had the problem again. that was over 2 years ago

everything seems to point to the coil pack but I have changed it for a second hand coil pack and leads. It doesnt splutter when i first turn on the engine for around 2 miles if this helps ? It may be I was very unlucky and fitted a dodgy second hand leads and coil pack ?

ow and I have just had a full renault service done so everything is back to its best and new i.e spark plugs, oil, filters etc none of the filters were extra dirty or anything

Could be a faulty injector

or possibly a ht lead, an rstuner would tell you what is directly failing iirc

I have changed leads, coil pack, spark plugs, I havent checked lambada sensor or an injector so this may be the problem. I am going to have it plugged back in by my friend at renault saturday and i will beable to get the exact fault codes. I will keep you all informed. Thanks for your comments and help

It won't be the lambda

The post cat lambda will switch on the management light because the car is misfiring and therefore the lambda is reading that the emissions are to high

Only live diagnostics will tell

The spark plugs are brand new only a week old and genuine, the problem was there before i had them changed. I really am sick of spending so much money on this car. I only used the best genuine parts with a renault specialist technician and I get problem after problem. I would like this to be a quick easy fix. My technician friend still rekons it could be the coil pack or leads and the other faults are a result of them. It was second hand as well so the one i fitted could of been shagged. We wont know for certain untill we plug it back in at renault to see what the fault codes are its just the waiting I cant stand. I like to know exactly whats going on but oh hey

Hi everyone,

Had the batmobile plugged in at renault and it only came up with Main Stream Oxygen Sensor which I believe is just before the cat. To replace this part is an unbelivable £112.00 for a genuine like for like. The other strange thing that happened to me before plugging it in at Renault is that I put VPower fuel in and after a short journey, Stop, and started the car for the return journey the Engine Managment light went off ???????????????? Strange. Do you believe replacing this sensor will be the answer to my problem, i hope so other wise it will be an expensive lesson otherwise lol. Im having it fitted tonight hopefully so I will let ya all know what happens.

My limited mechanical knowledge tells me the sensor would be the one seeing the problem, rather than causing it.

The lambda went on my old car and all that happened was a burnt a bit more fuel and had a crap idle.

Before you buy the sensor from renault get it from NW Performance instead mate as IIRC its no more than £70 inc p+p.

I am currently having problems with my sensor and haven't got round to changing it atm but the problems I have are

1) Crap idle when car is warming up
2) Holding back (like I am on the foot brake) when accelerating when cold
3) Crapish MPG
4) O2 sensor fault coming up on reading
Once the car has warmed up 1 & 2 sort themselves out.

If you do decide to change the sensor have fun getting to it thanks to the ph1 172 cat and manifold arrangement :-/..................and if you are lucky to have a 2 sensor ph1 172 swap the after cat one and see if that helps before buying a new one ;)

I bet you any money its a Lambda.

Everyone cries coilpack straight off the mark but its best to start at the simplest things first and then work upwards.

.. buy the part from NWP and do it yourself, its an easy job - especially as Renault have already told you that its the one before the cat!

VPower could be giving you a slightly cleaner burn, seducing your lambda into working as it should... although i suverely doubt it, more then likely just coincidence.
