Do not use Danmar exhausts in Wigan

I went in asking for the 182 'cat-mod' - fully described to him what I wanted and was told that it wouldn't be a problem. Whilst I was there, I decided that I also wanted my centre silencer removing and replacing with a straight pipe, but leaving it so I could have it put back in if I didn't like it - again 'not a problem'.

I picked it up and all seemed well... until I was given back my old parts. He cut the olive join off the cat and welded a straight pipe on (like I'd asked for), but the pipe coming out of the cat was at an angle (not straight) and the other end of that pipe was now connected to the end of my centre section. He basically cut the full lot off and welded a huge straight pipe there. Odd.

For some reason too, my centre exhaust mount had snapped completely and the pipe was cable tied in place.

I went back the next week and asked him to put my centre silencer back in because it was too loud (costing me more money but I didn't mind as it was my choice). The work was done and it wasn't until I got home that I noticed that the centre section scraped whilst going up my drive - something it had never done before.

A few days went by and I decided to have a look underneath it. I was slightly shocked! Instead of welding straight bits of exhaust, as it should be, he has used sleeve type pieces of metal (lazy) to connect all the parts back together. Further to this, the sleeves didn't actually join how they should do, so my full exhaust system was 'twisted'. This caused the tailpipes to sit against the bumper, vibrating when at idle, two knackered rear mounts and the cable tie on the centre section snapped as well.

See the photos for more detail of the work done.

Should be straight.

Centre section was scraping on slight bumps (my car is not lowered).

One of the two holes in the welding which obviously caused exhaust blow.

As an exhaust specialist I expected a little more from this place, however I shalln't be using them again and the aim of this thread is to point out the quality of work you may receive should you choose to use their services.

You may ask why I didn't take it back to him for be fixed. The reason for that is that I didn't want my car anywhere near that place after two shoddy jobs - I left it to the proper professionals and made a 400 mile round trip to Prospeed in Cardiff.

Thats just lazy / bad workmanship.

I would be so angry if i was handed that.

I would be expecting wielding like this (my mate makes exhaust systems in his spare time)

Nah, wouldn't be accepting that. So much so i'd actively go out my road to be a cnut to them. That is f**king outrageous.

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
reminds me of the welding thread from ages ago - was epic... no names mentioned but the trader was using customers cars to learn how to weld-

JezzaMac could do better than that!

Seriously shoddy as well. Surprised any company would let a customers car go out the shop like that.

Thats pretty horrendous! They definitely let the Saturday boy give it a bash! Big lengths of wire stuck to the "welds" lol.
Heez I recon I probably could do a better job than that! Still need to find the time to sleeve my cat!

It's onle one guy who owns/runs it I think.

I could do a better job if I could weld. Sleeving the pipes is just pure laziness. All that needed to be done is cut the olive join off the cat, stick a piece of pipe in the already sleeved centre section and then weld it to the cat.

That's even worse if it's just the one guy!! Are you going to take it back and try and get your money back or are you just going to suck it up and take it somewhere else hopefully with a better clue about welding exhausts?!

I've not bothered taking it back - not worth the hassle and plus I've got my new system now. The guy there seems/seemed alright to be fair, it's just a shame that the same can't be said about his work.

i took my xantia for the cat removing - that was bad, as if he had run out of gas - least i knew what Mig wire he had used as he left most still on. That would have been a good 4 years ago
