Aux & timing boob

Hi guys, Had my clio for a couple years now, had the belts and dephaser done on the car and a lot of other work carried out. It hasn't had much use since the belts...I'd say around 15 miles
long story short is that the idler pulley was not changed during that for some reason. I know that now as it failed causing the aux belt to slide over into the timing belt. This happened at near enough engine idle speed (going over a speed bump) if that makes any difference or not? I can turn the engine by hand with no nasty noises.

The timing belt is still on one piece however the engine did cut out, compression test also showed 0000. What I am not sure about is how to go about getting it back running again. Is there and reason not to get it re-timed and hope for the best or a rebuild? Or the straight forward option of a 2nd hand lump then do the belts and so on? is it a possibility to reuse the dephaser pulley?

Any advice would be great, cheers!

Yeah it was done by a garage. The first thought is yes go back to them however 2 years have passed since getting them done despite the car only doing a handful of miles and I also think they are now closed!

Even if they were open you'd have no chance after 2 years lol.

Have you pulled the aux belt out completley, is the cambelt still in position?

So far I've cut the aux belt off, taken the wheel off to get in to turn the crack which still turned the cams, timing belt is still in position.

Have you tried starting it with the aux belt off? It seems weird that it'd cut out if the aux belt never took out the cam belt?

Tired starting it and it sounds much like there is no compression which is also what the compression tester showed.

I've been trolling and trolling through posts about belts going where they shouldn't. I did read one saying the frays off of the aux belt can wrap round the cams causing it to jump the timing.

It will need a rebuild. The belt would've gone under the timing belt, made it lose timing and smash it's valves to bits. Get a secondhand engine a plop it in and yer you can re-use the dephaser.

Cheers for the input guys. I'm also looking to see what folk would recommend me doing regarding a rebuild or 2nd hand and new belts? Cheers

pull the head and chuck some valves in although the 'normal clio logic' is throw engine away and chuck another one in!!
