A new era...



So, after 3 and a half years in the 182, and 2 years in the 172 before that… it was time to move on. The 182 is a great car and I’ll probably miss it, but I was quite particular on my requirements for the new car. The missus got herself a 225 TT a few months back and I love the feeling you get when you’re sat in the cabin. So I went out looking for something from the VAG market. After many test drives and advice on here (cheers guys, you know who you are) I found out the 2.0TDi engine was the one to go for. All the Golf’s I looked at were tired, old, retired looking cars… so I went and looked at an A3 as they share the same engine.

I bought the first one I saw as it was far too good to miss. The guy who had it before traded this and a Porsche 928 in for an RS6 Avant. He supplied every single invoice from new including original sales receipt, every MOT, every tax disc, original sales pack from Audi and has always had it serviced at his local Audi Dealer. More importantly he opted for loads of factory extras when it was new.

The spec:
Audi A3 2.0 TDi Sport
Metallic akoya silver pearl paint
Bi-Xenons
Leather/alcantara seats in grey
Heated seats
BOSE stereo
Reversable boot mat
Non smoking pack ;)

It’s on 90k miles with 5 stamps in the service book with new tyres, brakes and exhaust. The thing is immaculate! I picked it up on Friday and loved it from the start. The chairs are a vast improvement over the 182, they hold you right in and go right down to the floor if needed. To get the most out of the engine I decided it needed tweaking in the way of a Revo Technik stage 1 remap which I had done on Saturday. This took it from 138bhp up to 173bhp and the torque from 235 up to 287. Suffice to say it pulls like a train now.

Future plans are some different wheels as the sport ones are s**t and an S3 spoiler to tidy up the rear end. The roof bars have been ordered for my surfboard :)

A remap was what I was about to suggest lol

The standard car was nice, but you could tell it could easily be improved on. The revo map made a massive difference, recommended!

Looks really nice mate, just out of interest, what garage did you part ex your 182 into lol Just so I can see how much its going for.

ProMotors in Bournemouth. I think they traded in onto someone else though mate as they specialise in German cars. I got £3500 for the clio. It will be easy to spot... Inferno FF on its original plate HF54 MFZ. Give it a week or so and you should be able to find it somewhere. I just need to wait for the log books to come back to sign it over to the trade.

Love the colour and its a good spec, my friend had the golf version of this, bought the petrol (1.8t) and now wants the diesel back!

Apart from sounding like an ice cream van these are mint. :)

Yeah the alloys aren't great... and these are the Sport spec wheels! lol
I'll chuck the wheels from the other half's TT on there at some point to see what they look like.

Looks good. I had the same question to ask myself but I bought the golf instead. I preferred the A3 but couldn't afford the newer shape.

I actually like the wheels. The only thing I dislike is the seats. I've always preferred just cloth. But very good spec none the less. And a decent colour!

I prefer the look of the Golf on the outside, but much perfer the A3 inside. They drove very similar!

Nice! What has been done recently (in terms of replaceables, belts etc).

Just been serviced (100 miles ago) and belts were all done with the water pump at 80,000 miles. It really has been pampered it's whole life :approve:

Nice! Despite the high miles I do I just couldn't bring myself to drive a diesel in all honesty, but that looks like a very well spec'd example.

Very nice......Friend bought the 3.2 V6 version and that came with those wheels and he said "I like them, Nice and subtle" 2 weeks later he was bored of them..... Get some nice BBS' on there ;)

they are the 18 inch s line alloys, would come with tyres but they could do with new rubber, ok condition, i had them as they were but a refurb would bring them up to 100%

only after peanuts for them to get rid

I can't see the pic as it's filtered at work for some reason... but I'm guessing they're just the standard 5 spoke S-line ones?

Yeah I sat in it and immediately felt the quality over the golf. My mate's got a bog standard A3 TDi and is a bit crap inside... mine is luxury after 7 years in various clios!

Very nice.

The s lines will go straight on. Its when you swap VW with Audi wheels the offsets tend to be out.

Cool! Have any major parts been replaced or are nearing end of life? Just wondering as I'm quite interested in the VAG market and don't want to buy a high miler that potentially needs major parts replaced any time soon.

It's recently had a new rear backbox, and front discs/pads...
I was put off high milers too, but after seeing the service history and the attention to detail the previous owner gave this car I couldn't turn it down. Feels like new!

Make sure any you're looking at have had the necessary recalls done, and you're good to go!

VAG's swallow up the miles. If theyve been serviced they'll last. simple. If you go on the forums there's even 1.8T's on over 200k on original clutches..lol

Can't decide, between a step up in quality or something a bit pacey. I'm liking the A3 you got, high-mileage 90k+ can be had for 6k there or there abouts. I'd love a bit of quality in my driving life to replace the C2.
