172 Very weak at normal revs?

Hi ,
I recently noticed that I was constantly flooring the throttle to keep up with the rest of the traffic if I shift at 3K . I'm talking about normal traffic, no one racing, normal 1.6 engine cars.
It makes me feel maybe my car is weak, but I checked 0-100 kph a few times and I constantly get under 7.5 seconds.
I'm not sure if it's normal, I believe I'm causing excessive wear from flooring it at low RPM every time I accelerate .
Do you guys feel like this too ?

These engines need to be in the higher rev range to get the power out of them. Have you noticed a difference in the lower Rev range recently or has it always been like this. People say that using an rstuner gives it slightly more oomph in the lower rev rangesothis might make your car feel better. Im not an expert on all this, just my opinion

You should easily be able to keep up with normal moving traffic below 3k rpm. They have 120+lb ft of torque at this time- plenty for a car weighing a little over a ton.
I suspect you may have an issue.

Change gear at 7k. You will be in front then :)

On a serious note, they are just normal cars till you hit 5k. Loads of cars pull away from me but then 5k kick kicks in yo!

Sort of still kicks. I don't really know, ive sort of got used to it.
Induction kit definatley changes note at 5k. Doing just under 100mph in 3rd so I'm happy with that.

@N4TH4N come and have a go in mine. I need someone to drive it to put my mind at rest.
Do any of yours bounce you up and down when sitting at traffic lights etc?
The revs don't drop, it just judders.

Ok, ive got you number nath.
Might be a late one as I'm doing some work in the garden.

So yours doesn't judder on idle?
Might be my exhaust.

I wouldn't say judder @LeeRS . It can at times feel as though it's missing every so often but again once warm its fine.

I had that similar issue when my timing was out. Mick sorted it and was fine. Are you absolutely 100% on the integrity of your timing

I have always doubted it to be fair. Have spoke to mick and he said to bring it down to check but ive never got the time. I'm off work next week so I might book it in if you don't think its right on Saturday.

If you're doubting than it is more than likely out. I kept telling myself it was fine then one day when i lost to an old shape fiesta st i rang mick lol..

It was out, losing power. Well worth the dough to get it sorted out. Massive difference tbh. Not all that far away from us. Its something daft like 7o quid to check it and put your mind at ease. So glad i did. @LeeRS

Btw Alex, that wax you sent me, does it ever run out?
Have been using it for ages now lol, great stuff.
That was obsession wax show wax i belive top wax that mate glad you like it,to the op i would get the car checked out put your mind at rest if you think its not performing as good

Its easy to say yea it does 7 secs to 60 or 95 in third gear. Don't mean s**t. I thought all this until mick took a look. Goes to show. @LeeRS we be better putting our cars against each other to see how yrs performs tbh

  182
Bur what if I beat you? Hahaha.
£70 to sort it?
How far is notts? I'm taking it.

If you beat me then the 182 goes back to mick lol.

70 just to check etc with replacing cam seals. If all is well then that's it.

If it needs doing i think mick charged me a further 70 to 80 to adjust as it's quite time consuming. I must of been with mick 3 hrs

Mate means diddly s**t.

Bought the 182 from a well known Renault "specialist". Four ashes Renault close to me. Timing still out after they did cambelt.

Bet you a pound to a penny its out.

i read your other post on sometimes car feels slow, yes i agree there is something with these cars, sometimes mine feels quick other times it doesnt, ive changed everything bar fuel pump,a specialist did tell me the fuel pumps do play up esp on the cups

I will just take it to mick and get it all sorted out.
At least its running and feels quick for the time being :)
Backbox being changed tomorrow as well for a nice stealth. New tyres next Wednesday.
Will have to do a proper meet soon.

You going to css?

I think all cars feel quick one day as opposed to the next. I had a 180 bhp mg zr diesel. I swore it had issues as some days it boosted great and others not so. I think its mind over matter mostly. But i do believe lee's timing will be out

standard exhaust, no cat and no resonator (middle box), cone filter. Changed to the stock airbox and measured acceleration times , got the same times with both (40-120 kph in third) .
any chance someone could upload a video, even just an audio, showing full throttle acceleration, shifting at 3K through all gears? So I can compare.
I honestly feel like I'm racing normal traffic if I shift at 3K.

Something certainly not right. No point in comparing. Get it plugged in.
