Where to spend the money to improve lap times

Ditto in exactly the same order and perhaps get some data on your tyre temps to optimise the geometry.

Agree The KW Clubsports I referrred to above - one of the dampers is on its way out after very few events - less than 20. The problem with those is that they can't be rebuilt and that's a MASSIVE issue. At least, KW themselves won't touch them. I didn't enquire with anyone else.

Not sure if I am reading this entire thread wrong but it's gone from a discussion/disagreement of fixed vs adjustable being a personal preference to dearer fixed vs cheaper adjustable is better. Confusing! I have used GAZ GHA, Spax RSX, KW Clubsport and Bilstein PSS9 Clubsport all on the same...

    Anyone seen these shocks before?

Is that a Lip damper? I have those on my 172 Cup. I feel my car doesn't handle as it should because of them (AND tired front dampers). Anyway, seeing your photo led me to do some research. Looks like QH Lip are part of the Klarius Group and manufacture dampers for OE applications. The part...

    grand on coilies

I'm a newbie here so I won't go on and upset anyone but will just say this. The enjoyment for me is, as a by product, the lap time. If I am going faster, I am getting the lines better, the braking better, the geometry working better, the tyres working better, the car and driver (as a system) are...

    grand on coilies

I don't understand some of the views in this thread. Having done many trackdays in different cars over the last 4 years, it's a given that you go for adjustable height and damping with higher spring rates when you build a car for the track. Any other view is nonsense.

Newbie from Herts looking for a 172 Cup as a track car

It's really great fun. I've come from 4 years of BMW track cars so I have been dreading moving into a FWD car but it has so much else going for it that it can be forgiven. The lightness and 'chuckability' really stand out, and not having ABS really concentrates the mind and adds a scare factor...

Newbie from Herts looking for a 172 Cup as a track car

Hi from a recent new 172 Cup owner. I'm in Stevenage ;)

    EBC Yellowstuf pads

Thanks Tony. I'd actually be after 06 but since they do 97, I guess they do all their compounds for the Clio.

    EBC Yellowstuf pads

Pads are like women. Everyone has a different opinion on them and, not only that, they'll give the 'user' a different experience depending on how they're treated!! I've yet to buy track pads for my newly acquired Clio but I know they won't be DS2500 as I had a bad experience with them in the...

Snetterton 300 in M3 Evo track car following a Ferrari 430 challenge race car

Hi. Yeah my mate should be entering a round or two of the Kumho BMW championship this year.

Snetterton 300 in M3 Evo track car following a Ferrari 430 challenge race car

Then around 2 years ago it had a major redevelopment: Geoff Steel Racing built 3.2 M3 Evo engine with carbon airbox and mapped by Wayne Schofield - 351 bhp KW Clubsport suspension E9x M Diff with 3.64 final drive Chassis and diff carrier reinforcement Eibach ARBs and lots of other stuff...

Snetterton 300 in M3 Evo track car following a Ferrari 430 challenge race car

The car started as a 328i when we bought it 4 and a half years ago with the immediate intention of being a track car so straight off it had GAZ suspension, weld in cage designed and built by SHP Engineering, Performance Friction brake pads, Corbeau buckets, inlet manifold and throttle body mods...

Cheers mate ;) Although I'll admit I was kicking myself for letting that happen!

Snetterton 300 in M3 Evo track car following a Ferrari 430 challenge race car

Hi there. Yep that's me :D And, yeah, I'm looking forward to taking the Clio on track but there's some remedial work required first. I took the car to Mark Fish last week and they shifted the engine as much as they could (due to knocking and rubbing sounds!) but they're still there when you...

Snetterton 300 in M3 Evo track car following a Ferrari 430 challenge race car

I'm new here and have recently bought a 172 Cup for daily use and track fun. Anyway, thought I'd share with you what I've been playing around in for the last few years. This is a video from Snetterton on Thursday in the car my best mate and I built together. Trying my hardest (and failing...

Harness Bar vs. Half-Cage, and Airbags

The most quoted reply to running harnesses and fixed back seats without a cage is the risk of serious spinal injury. In a road car I believe the inertia reel and reclining seats allow the user to move around in the event of an accident. With a fixed bucket and harness you can't move at all...

    Hello from Stevenage

Good point. I wasn't very clear in my first post. It's for road use with occasional trackdays over the next 12-18 months. If I enjoy it more than I'm expecting (as it's FWD) I would possibly keep it and make it a dedicated track car after the period mentioned.

Hi Mark. Thanks for the offer but it's a lot more miles than what I'm looking for.

    Hello from Stevenage

Well I called about that car in Bolton and the seller warned me against having a pre-purchase inspection done. Hmmmm, that would be a shed then! Very thankful he actually did warn me off though rather than have me waste a chunk of cash.

    Hello from Stevenage

Have found this Cup in Bolton but it seems too cheap! I'll give them a ring today to find out about its condition. I've already done a HPI check and it shows nothing of concern. http://www.pwalliscarsales.co.uk/149066/used-cars.htm

    Hello from Stevenage

Hi everyone and thanks for the warm welcome. Jordi, the car I am looking at this weekend is a full fat car but I did find a few Cups on AT last night (cheers!) that I might stretch to depending on their condition.

    Hello from Stevenage

Hi Jordi. I see you're a seasoned forum member - 9000 posts! Would you be available over the next few days to show me your car/what to look for so I know what to expect when I view this 172 on the weekend? I'll gladly buy you a beer. Oh, and hi Brian!

    Hello from Stevenage

Hello everyone. I'm Tommy and I'm currently looking for a Clio 172/182 having just sold my BMW 330i and wanting something a bit more UNrefined and fun :p I've come from having a couple of BMW's for road and track for the last 4 and a bit years and now I'm looking for some cheaper track fun...
