I have a switch with sends power to the ecu, is that basically what the first turn of the key does, just uses a relay to s
Connect the power? so can I just switch that off everything else on the car will still have power from the main power cable.

UPDATE: - (the best one ever!!)

So i've been pretty busy recently doing bits and bobs on the car, I didnt really take many pictures of all the stuff but heres what i have done.

Fitted the rear tow strap :)

As the standard fuel line was allways really tight i decided to buy some new bits to change to a full braided line and metal fuel rail.

Parts were:
4 meters of braided hose
1 goodridge hose to fuel rail fixing
1 alloy blanking cap from Think Automotive
1 alloy push hose adaptor
1 Jenvey metal fuel rail
2 bracket kits for the fuel rail suited for the standard injectors

So first i drilled a hole where i wanted the fuel line to go through the car.

All was fine so i enlarged the hole to the size of the grommet and line

Poked the fuel hose through the hole and attached the push on fuel fixing

Pushed the hose on

I then ran the line down the side of the car

I then started to remove the old fuel rail

The other thing i have done is completly rewired the car, so the car had NO wiring from RENAULT and just amazing wiring by me.

And this means..........

I'm actually probably the most northen part of Aylesbury in Watermead :). I think you came round once before a few years ago to drop some replacment AST topmount bits off.

Just PM me if you fancy a nosy :)

Looks very meet as usual chris :) it started ok?

It starts up striaght away now i have set the throttle cable.

Sound very rough tho and it seems to be kicking out black smoke which doesnt sound/look good. I'm gona bleed the cooant and try plug the laptop into the ecu now i know the ECU actually works.

  TrackCar & F30 330d
Does this sound like its misfiring? It's got a bit of a high idel atm but thats just because of how i had set it at the time.

Like i said above i'll be trying to plug my laptop into the ecu but just wasnt sure if the car sounded right or not?

Is that a cold start? Tried leaving it idling for a while and see if it make any difference? or even drive it up and down the road?

alright chris, is joe with the vx!

awesome thread its amazing how far that clio has come! although you do seem to be a bit of a girl with the wheels changing colour every week by the look of it ;) but i am glad you got rid of the stickers! hope you got discount on parts tho :)

just out of interest got some questions for ya as i only looked at the pages i havent got 2 days dedicated to going through your 81 pages lol!!

what was the final weight of your clio? did you notice much difference in weight between the metal bonnet with skin removed and the cf one? was having a chat with a chap at knockhill who ran a german spec'd supercharged m3. He was sayng that his bonnet with skin removed was the same weight as the cf one! also whats the battery like? i got an odyseey 680 but bit worried about whether its going to be man enough for the job on the vx or not. already downsized the alternator to a 100A one and running an extra charge cooler pump and ditched the mechanical enginewater pump for a electric one..... not sure if it will be happy with this or not... what do you think/experience?

i take it those parda spec 2 semi slicks wherent as good as the 888s? ever thoguht about trying the v70a kumhos we talked about? the germans love them and tested against 888s/ao48s (on the vx though) and the kumhos came out on top although they dont have the lifespan as a 888!

what suspension bushes/coilovers/arb are you running?

also did you get the 4pots you wanted? noticed you said you run cl pads, which ones rc5/6?
keep up the good work buddy, give me a shout if you need a hand

Hey mate - nice build

How did you fit the rear tow strap?

I've got my front one fitted easy enough but then looked at fitting the rear and couldn't really work out a good way to do it
I was contemplating drilling the welds out for the standard one - then drilling a big hole through the spare wheel well and using a harness eye load spreading plate on the other side - but wasn't sure it would be strong enough :(

The stickers were done as a laugh for the Nurburgring trip. I'm glad they have gone now too tbh lol

I havnt had it weighed yet but i'm aiming for 800kg if its under 820kg (which is including the 38kg cage) then i'll be happy.

Did you notice much difference in weight between the metal bonnet with skin removed and the cf one? was having a chat with a chap at knockhill who ran a german spec'd supercharged m3. He was sayng that his bonnet with skin removed was the same weight as the cf one!

The metal bonnet weighs loads, i cut half the underskin out and it made it a bit lighter, i then cut all the second skin out and the bonnet was then useless as it was like paper and blew about even when the car was stationary lol. Bit of a mistake tbh, so when this cheap cf bonnet came up i bought it. Much stronger and now weights about 6kg which is still less than the paper metal bonnet.

also whats the battery like? i got an odyseey 680 but bit worried about whether its going to be man enough for the job on the vx or not. already downsized the alternator to a 100A one and running an extra charge cooler pump and ditched the mechanical enginewater pump for a electric one..... not sure if it will be happy with this or not... what do you think/experience?

I run a Varley Red Top 25, downsized alternator and still run a water pump off the engine. I did look into an electric pump but that will be next years task now. My battery has been fine and i now have it on trickle charge when its not being used. I've had the battery for ages and not had a problem with it when i had a full sterio, AC, xezon Lights, power steering etc. So i would have thought yours would be fine. TBH i dont actually know how much power a charge cooler uses (or what it actually is lol) I think you may just have to see how it goes when its up and running to see if the batter is up to scratch.

i take it those parda spec 2 semi slicks wherent as good as the 888s? ever thoguht about trying the v70a kumhos we talked about? the germans love them and tested against 888s/ao48s (on the vx though) and the kumhos came out on top although they dont have the lifespan as a 888!

Prada Spec 2's are SH*T. end of. Well i do love 888's but i'm now a real man and have Dunlop Slicks for when its dry. once the R888's and slicks have been killed i'm gona get a set of Wet race tyres, and another set of slicks if they are good. Have you ever thought of getting slicks for the VX? Might be worth trying the Kumhos on your new fat boy wheels and then you can judge for yourself if the wider kumhos are hugly better then the thinner 888 on your other wheels.

what suspension bushes/coilovers/arb are you running?

I'm running H&R coilovers upfront with AST solid suspension mounts, billstine rear dampers with H&R springs, Powerflex wishbone, ARB and dogbone bushes. I will eventually be getting a whiteline rear ARB as they apprently make the car much sharper on the turn in.

also did you get the 4pots you wanted? noticed you said you run cl pads, which ones rc5/6?
keep up the good work buddy, give me a shout if you need a hand

I didnt get 4pot's in the end, not really needed on the car. I run the old slightly more aggressive CL RC5 pad in the fronts, Halfords specials in the rears lol

I'll let you know when i need a hand, Beers soon

just remembered about a seat leon cupra that i have seen at a couple of trackdays, he had the skin on his bonnet fully removed and when he has the bonnet open its like a banana in the wind!! light though, he also stripped it all out inside but painted it all black so at a distance looks standard interior which i thought was a pretty cool idea.

chargecooler system is just to try and keep the supercharger air colder but i went for the biggest pump i can find which is a 1200L/hr pump i am hoping the battery will be man enough for the job, i got a trickle charger for it aswell so guess i will just make it more accessible and leave it on charge when i am not using it (most of the time! :( )

fully slicks i wish! would mean trailoring it to events which i dont really want to do! not yet anyway but if i did then i would strip it all down... even more  although il would ove to run slicks them! what wets you going for R1R's?

i just bought the rc5+ for the 4pots and rears so am excited about trying them out, took my mates race vx round a couple of trackdays and they are by far the best pads i have used so far be interesting what they are like on the road though.

definately need to meet up for some beers although i could imagine leaving and end up buying alot of parts  we will have to setup a meet at a trackday soon i need a practice trackday before le mans double header weekend so let me know if you have any booked before august :)

UPDATE:

I've been meaning to make a new front splitter for quite a while now and today I thought i'd give it a bash.

I started with a huge piece of chip board of something and slid it under the car which is on axle stands

725b86c8.jpg

I then drew on the wood to mark out what I needed to cut off

c2847cb8.jpg

So then I trimmed the bits so the wheels didn't catch on it.

bd7b2e57.jpg

Then I attached it to the subframe

38e3e5fd.jpg

And then attached it to the bumper

fdf15739.jpg

So not it was secure it was ready to trim the curve

Trimmed a bit

I then removed it ready for painting

Bit of spray paint

77b24a83.jpg

And then refitted I'm not 100% sure about the size of the lip or about the ends of the splitter as I think they should be cut flat but it will do for now until I decide.

I think it would look better if the outer edges were flush with the bumper. Isn´t there a splitter by Mark Fish that looks similar?

  TrackCar & F30 330d
Question is will it catch fire like the top gear one :rasp:

It doesn't touch the sump but I still might put a little bit of heat shield on the floor it so it doesn't catch fire lol

Yes that exactly what I was thinking but I didn't want to rush into it and cut it off and it look rubbish! Might do it tomorrow :)

Mr Fish did make one out of metal but the lip was only about an inch and someone else on here had a huge carbon one which had a lip which was about a foot!

remember I told you it would need balancing once you'd taken the entire assembly apart and put it back together? Still needs doing ;)

Well it was actually misfiring because of a stupid HT Lead issue which is now sorted so it now doesnt sound like a subaru! but the car still has a little misfire, so perhaps when your free you could pop over like we discussed a little while ago and you could have a little lookie over the car, and balance the ITB's?

I can phone you to organise it if your still free some time? :)

  TrackCar & F30 330d
No good for Tin Tops Mark, standard profile only.

Haha, Mark is like the kid in the sweet shop and your the dad saying he's not allowed anything!

I suppose you could still have it as a flat floor but with no lip. Would still aid the airflow.

It cost me nothing which is why I did it :)
