Good work

Are you going to be at Three Sisters on the 18th April? Il probably come and have a gander if so, only round the corner from me...

Yep I will be going straight from my 2nd 12 hour night shift :sleepy: might not be my best event :)

See you there!

A quick video from today.
Its just drying out after the rain but it started to rain again for most of the day.:dapprove:
I will put some more up this week.

great to see compo vids; haven't been but imagine Cadwell must be one of the worst to 'learn' in the time you've got, unless you're already familiar

had a go at events on little/no sleep before as well - not good!

A quick update as I have just painted the wheels gloss black, not original but gives me an idea which colour to have when they get refurbed.

Also I am at 3 Sisters in Wigan tomorrow (sun) and Aintree next sat if anyones in the area.

Tell your mate to hold the camera still whilst your driving, he was a bit wobbly.

Looks like you need to try and get rid of some of the understeer on those tighter venues. Thought about a rolll bar or some silly stiff rear springs?

Lol at wobbly camera!

Understeer was a major problem , it turns in well but on the really tight u bends it just lights up the unloaded wheel and then spins a fair bit into the following straight loseing lots of time.
Desperately needs a diff but can't decide on a final drive but the price of them puts me off spending another £1.5k on top of what I've spent already.

I take it your running without an LSD at the moment?

Yes, we have a normal diff. but remember weve not driven it yet, Lol........

Worth trying a rear roll bar on yours for what they cost

Would left foot braking not help in that situation?

^ would if I could! Tried it when I used to rally but it's very difficult and even harder to be consistant.

Rear anti roll bar may be worth a go.

Going to fit some extra bump stop rubbers to the rear shocks to try an stiffen up the rear.

Lol no!
I will see him at Aintree on sat and mention you to him. I assume your a past adversary of his?

Just read the post, I'll be there at Aintree I'm running in the standard class in a cup, hoping for good weather I'll come across and say hello, I know Russ T well as thats my name as well gets a bit funny saying your own name when say hello, I've run against him for years in a 205 hoping to enjoy the cup as much, as sug, gested with the mods go for the rear ARB and diff first and leave the rest till the cars on the limit depending what class you stay in.

Regards Russ.......

Ah nice one, I will be very interested in how our times compare as I think to be competitive in the modified class will cost a fortune as most run lsd's , throttle boddies and cams etc which will cost £5k.
I was going to enter the standard class but didn't think their would be many entries.
See you there then.

Hello colin,

Good to meet you at Aintree, and a big thanks for lending me a set of spare gloves top man:D just goes to show I should read the regs,:S hope you keep the car in the class your in as it's a nice motor and would be a shame to waiste all that work you've put in, still it'll make things interesting, wife can't stop laughing at me as yet again I've burnt my face I'm the same colour as Russ T Renault, still hope to see you at another event hoping to do the 3 Sisters 2 lapper later on.Hoping the weather is the same for next weekend at Anglsey

Regards Russ.....

Hi
I just thought I'd update the thread as its gone a bit quiet , I had a good season overall with some excellent results.
I ran in both the standard a modified classes but once in the modified class it gets a bit open cheque book time as there are some very powerful and well developed cars with 200 + bhp , one car was running 50 bhp "down" on last year making do with 230 ! but in the end power is nothing without control ;- )
My best events were Aintree , Mira and Anglesey which was strange as running with only 166 hp I should have been way off the sharp end as these are very quick circuits.
I put this down to my car being very well setup to suit my driving and the lack of very tight corners where an lsd would make a big difference.
I have had :-
1 first
1 second
3 third
1 forth
1 fifth
At Harewood I have finished well down the order as it is very competitive here and cars run a slightly different " application " :dapprove: of the regs lol but was running second in the rain but finished further down as it dried out.
I will be out next year but not sure which class yet ie standard or modified or maybe a different car....

Hopefully we will see some more from the forums out as its a great sport. :D

Thanks Tony.
I also came 4 th overall in the club championship but I over looked a small detail in the regs that said you had to do 4 of the clubs own round so by the time I was aware it was too late :( to get enough rounds in.
Note to self , READ the regs for next year !! Lol

Thought I'd bring this upto date with my winter mods,

I fitted pagid RS4 pads in place of the DS2500 and found them to be a big improvement both from cold and when hot

Cup alternator and removed the aircon gubbins although bending the steering pipe was a bit touch n go as I thought it my snap as it was quite rusty and it looks as though it may rub through as it sits on the subframe so at some point I will fit an electric saxo pump ala burpspeed, just need to find a place for it in the crowded engine bay.

Yoko AD08 tyres , these are a big step up from T1R's that I used last year as they have a very stiff side wall , not driven it properly in the wet yet so will see how they go.

Whiteline rear ARB ,fitted on the stiffest setting, not 100% sure its made that much of a difference as my Koni's are the revalved ones so are stiff when fully wound up.

Engine wise its almost standard as I sold my APD matched inlets and put my standard ones back on as I was fitting something else so I am down on last years power which was only a measily 166 hp.

Next to do,

I bought Burpspeeds old cup box and dropped it off at Agency to strip the diff out, I couldnt decide on a Gripper or Quaife diff but as Gripper are out of stock until june I will get a Quaife fitted, this should bring a big improvement as the final drive is shorter than my Ph 1 box so will accel a bit quicker and the diff will help with all the tight hairpin and 180' bends that are common on the sprint and hillclimb venues.

Also hopefully will have some ITB's later in the year.

what do you thinks the best ride height for minimum roll, grip, snappy arse end? have you adjusted any camber caster? also what toe in/out do you have?

^ ride height is fixed as I am running Eibach springs set up wise it has 30 min toe out and 1 3/4 deg negative camber and arb set full stiff which helps with turn in.

  RS 182 CUP
how much does adjusting camber affect grip through corners vs straight line grip? mine mostly a road car, but it does get used like it was designed for and looking for ways to improve it without compromise to everyday use. got h and r coilies on and solid top mounts (non adjustable) looking at anti rollbar next but does it make much difference?

Results from 3 sisters 17 april

Clio cup 172 ( cams and gripper diff) 1st 52.43
Me Phase 1 172 2nd 52.61
Pug 205 3rd 53.23
Clio cup 172 (btb exhaust,thats it) 4th 53.96
Pug 205 5th 54.22

My best time last year was 54.39 (4th ,1st was 52.27) so a big improvement which is largely down to tyres and a better line in a couple of the corners.

Next event is next week at Aintree and then 14th May at Harewood where I hope to have the quaife and box fitted if its done in time.

I would say that 1 3/4 is max on road tyres and the toe out is really for track use as it may catch you out in the wet but its all very subjective as I am sure some one will use lots more, its a question of what feels best to you.

had mine at minus 1mm toe in originally but now put it at parallel as a race car builder says thats what he puts all his cars to. thanks for advice mate, you ever been to the hillclimb in lichfield, west mids? cor remember what the course is called?
