Very 2011 but tried Prima Amigo for the first time today.
I normally use tripple with a black hex pad however Amigo applied really nicely, stays very wet on the pad so easy to work in, very minimal dusting too.

Obligatory potato pics -

Looks superb. I still live Amigo I just got to the stage where it was only worth using on decent paintwork, it won't do much on tired paint imo.

Used Vics Concours over Prima Amigo on my old A3. Looked awesome but took me f**king ages by hand!

I see some get good results with amigo but I never really thought much to it. never felt it added much to the finish. tried it mainly by hand and a couple of applications by DA. Thought there were plenty of other products that either filled or cleansed significantly better

Have you ever read my threads Dave! @Sunglasses_Ron ??? I use Prime on nearly ever job I do.

Prime strong is the best cleanser you'll ever buy. They also don't make it anymore so you're holding some rare s**t! It has zero filler or abrasives. Also cleans amazing. Use it on glass it's great and leaves sealant behind.

If you had 100% corrected paint and wanted to use an expensive wax, Prime/prime strong is what I would use underneath, offers such a strong clean base. Polished Bliss used to use it in every detail almost.

Have you tried any of the Carlack stuff that Polished Bliss has replaced the Werkstat stuff with? I've still got some of the Werkstat Acrylic kit in the garage but wondered how the Carlack stuff measures up.

Years ago yes but not recently and only because I have Werkstat Prime, I also dislike the carlack branding and bottle compared with Werkstat, fickle? Yes, I will compare them soon.

lol you've made me feel proper guilty now 😂

I've read loads of your projects but I guess I never put two and two together lol

ok so that's good to know.

I'm collecting some Swissvax wax from @RyG on Saturday so I guess I'll be using this prime and then applying some Swissvax on top.

Cheers G

On those details where you use tripple by DA, try using lime prime. It's quite oily so found it fill ok still, but due to the abrasive in it pad dependant it can cut well also. RussZS aka midlandscarcare and Gally used to use it a long time ago for enhancement details. By hand I still prefer AF rejuvenate or tripple.

Prime is a strange one. Can really pull the dirt out and leaves a great base for general sealants. But I prefer waxing so didn't use it all that much

Right, well, I am cheap (read as: skint) and need to buy cleaning stuff.

How's this for a bottom-price selection? (I already have two buckets, a wool wash mitt and a gallon of Meguiar's Gold Class shampoo.)

AutoSmart Tardis remover stuff for a tenner:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BZC7SV6/?tag=cliospnet01-21

Clay lube for £6
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detai...ts/dodo-juice-born-slippy-500ml/prod_560.html

Clay selection for £15
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detai...arpro-detailing-clay-trio-pack/prod_1062.html

The three-step Meguiar's Deep Crystal paint cleaner / polish / wax for about £30.

Then this sealant for £19:

Other options welcome!

Iron x or similar?

If you're low on funds you can substitute the clay lube for a shampoo solution. You shouldn't need a selection on clay, but Bilt Hamber only requires water (no soapy lube needed).

I can see what stuff I have in work you can try? Let me have a mooch tomo
That's a kind offer but I don't want to take the mick!

Iron x or similar?
Ah yes, good call - I have to say my initial, uneducated response to iron removers is "Why???" but having seen some of the pics on here while it's on the car and doing its stuff, it does look effective...

The question is - is the original better?
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-and-exterior/carpro-iron-x-500ml/prod_726.html
the non-smell version?
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engin...ron-x-ls-fallout-remover-500ml/prod_1352.html
or should I go straight for the combined iron and tar remover to save buying two large bottles of separate products?
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-and-exterior/carpro-trix-iron-and-tar-remover/prod_1033.html
I'm tempted by this last one on the basis it looks cheaper and I won't use it that much because I'm not mad keen on detailing... lol

Awesome tip, thank you!

So, going from the above, it looks like I'm best going with this combo?

Carpro Trix combined Iron and Tar remover: £13
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-and-exterior/carpro-trix-iron-and-tar-remover/prod_1033.html

Bilt Hamber regular clay bar: £11
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detai...hamber-auto-clay-regular-200g-/prod_1161.html

Meguiar's Deep Crystal Step 1 - Paint Cleaner £10
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000A8MRKI/?tag=cliospnet01-21
Meguiar's Deep Crystal Step 2 - Polish £8.50 / £10
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001GZGRFA/?tag=cliospnet01-21
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/car-p...39-s-deep-crystal-step-2-polish/prod_715.html
Meguiar's Deep Crystal Step 3 - Carnauba Wax £9 / £10
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00078XL2O/?tag=cliospnet01-21
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/meguiar-39-s-deep-crystal-step-3-wax/prod_716.html

Carpro Reload sealant for £19:
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/sealants/carpro-reload-spray-sealant/prod_782.html

Which my maths says is £73, so not bad for a pretty complete manual setup?

(I note the Reload sealant says to use on a car free of solvents or wax, so I presume I'd use stages 1 and 2 of the Meguiar's system, then the sealant, then stage 3 of the Meg's? I'm such a noob :( lol)

Although now I'm wondering about the Meg's Ultimate Compound for £11 as well / instead of the Step 1 Paint Cleaner:
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/car-polish-compounds/meguiars-ultimate-compound/prod_554.html

And I need to sort out some good but cheap cloths / pads...??

This game is a money pit!!

You don't need to use a sealant AND wax, either one or the other.

You could pick some Collinite wax up for around £15 which will last for ages!

Trix is slightly less effective than the two products separated - I'd go for Iron-x & Tar-x or Tardis.

Are you planning on working by hand?

I'd just use a polish like Tripple and apply reload on top of that rather than get all the different cleansers etc.

Unnngh, this makes my head hurt :tired: lol

I thought the general rule was individual products were better, but if the Tripple stuff is just as good as 3-stage Megs (and is 1/3rd the price) it's on the list...

I will be working by hand, though, yes - can't afford a polisher and don't trust myself not to burn through to the metal on the first go! LoL

So...

AutoSmart Tardis remover stuff for a tenner:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BZC7SV6/?tag=cliospnet01-21

Iron-X for a tenner:
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-and-exterior/carpro-iron-x-500ml/prod_726.html

Bilt Hamber regular clay bar: £11
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detai...hamber-auto-clay-regular-200g-/prod_1161.html

Auto Finesse Tripple £12
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=893

Then either the Carpro Reload sealant for £19:
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/sealants/carpro-reload-spray-sealant/prod_782.html
or the Collinite 476S wax for £16?
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/collinite-476s-super-doublecoat-auto-wax/prod_207.html
or the Collinite 845 Insulator Wax for £16?
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/collinite-no-845-insulator-wax/prod_208.html

so nearer £60 all in, nice. :)

I am confused by the Carpro stuff, though - it looks to be easiest to apply (wipe on, wipe off, no pressure needed) but also says it shouldn't be applied over a wax, which the Tripple has got in it...??

Thanks for your help, chaps, I am officialy turning into an old man - no time/ability to learn everything I need to nowadays :( lol

By hand tripple is excellent. Good filling ability and easy to apply. You don't need to do a 3 stage combo to get decent results.

I used to use Collinite 476s, its a very 'industrial' wax that lasts forever.

However, I prefer the finish and application of Reload, simple spray and wipe off and lasts for several months (it's also fine on tripple)

Surely if you follow the instructions there should be no issues?

I wish wax performed like a nano sealant but they just attract dirt and dust!

I just don't like the idea of nano particles floating around the environment when there is no regulation of them whatsoever, seemingly - and if they are that small that they get through pretty much any filtration system, do you really want to be glugging back tapwater filled with car polish nanoparticles that have come off in the washing machine and gone straight into the sewage system, which is re-processed back into drinking water?

Call me paranoid / crazy / a tree-hugger(?!) but I do think this nano-tech is going to create problems we aren't even aware of yet, and it will be too late by then to remove them from the environment. (Not to mention that I'm sure they are in loads more cleaning / personal hygiene products that we aren't told about.)

Anyway, I appreciate that such technology works well for car polishes... lol

So, after all that rambling, I've taken off my tin-foil hat andI think my final selection will be:
CarPro Tar-X
CarPro Iron-X
Bilt Hamber Clay (regular)
AutoFinesse Tripple
Collinite 467S
and then some foam pads / microfibres for applying/removing, all of which should be relatively quick and easy to work with, hopefully

Thanks for all the help, gents, it's much appreciated!

I'll have to remember to take some before and after photos because the current paint is shocking  although I don't think I'm going to be able to do much about the parts where someone's polished/scrubbed through to the white undercoat... lol
