Rockstar ate my hamster. Just coem into my head earlier and I do not know why.

Also there was a game that was just one screen I think, like a war strategy and you could use missles or propaganda to attack russia and win. Anyone remember what it was called?

I always laugh a Kumquat quiche in LSL7 I think it was.

The I got older and realised a Kumquat wasn't just a comedy based fruit invented for LSL and actually existed.

Mickey Mouse : castle of illusion

The re-release looks amazing! Loved the original, got it on launch day with the game gear along with wonder boy. All of which is still packed away upstairs

Also unboxed the 32x and tried Virtua racing. I remember it looking amazing, it isn't!

Had a quick blast of the classic NBA Jam...

Was great hearing the classic lines like 'From Downtown' and 'Oh My, He's On Fire!'

Desert Strike

A game so good on the Megadrive, I even bought it on the SNES.

Followed by Jungle Strike and Urban Strike, IIRC.

I lived that, If that was one with helicopters.

Micro machines was pretty epic as a teenager.

Probably been said before but Swos was absolutely mint.

Picked up a mega drive a few weeks ago for the grand total of £12, with around 30 games.

Some classics, various football games. Desert strike, Jungle Strike, All the sonics, Street Fighter 2 (as soon as my mates saw this, there was a beer an street fighter 2 night)

Just need to pick up a SNES now at some point. Also considering building a MAME arcade cabinet. Got some old PC hardware lying around and it seems like a good use for it. Cheap monitor and some MDF is all that is needed. Seems like it could be a fun project too.

Lol at £45 for the Rugby, that equates to about £75 now.

Thinking about it, I remember PS1 games being about £45 new?

Games have always sold between £35-£45 quid. Thou I remember when Mission impossible was released on N64 and was marked at around £65!

I've just bought a retro pi with a few hundred games on for nes, snes, megadrive and master - pretty good really for what it is. Most work fine with the odd one running blocky.

Yeah the N64 games were the most expensive released in general. Duke Nukem was definitely £65 had to buy it as Goldeneye was sold out. :(

In anticipation of the Rare collection out next week I decided to bust out the N64... But it was clearly fucked...

So set up the emulator and and N64 controller adaptor on the old laptop...

Pokemon Stadium is still great fun (my kids have been binge watching the original Pokemon series). Goldeneye handles like a bar of soap on the N64 controller lol

Just spent a good part of my afternoon looking through this!... brings back memories! I love these threads!

My first computer was the old mans Spectrum 48k, I remember copying hundreds of lines of code from a magazine series called 'input' to make a ping ping game!
Then there was Skool Daze & Back to skool, check it out!!... & Can't forget Harrier Attack

I then progressed onto my mums old work 386 'PC' complete with 5 1/4 inch drive & turbo button lol! the game of choice was prince of Persia.

Then the ultimate.. Commodore Amiga 500+ this came with the extra ram! I had loads of games (and still do) the things that stick out in my mind are.
The 'Dizzy' series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgDhnolRV28
Monkey Island
Project x - remember being amazed by the graphics in the backgrounds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjq-ONi3dZE
Rainbow islands

And many more, but I've bored you enough.
I now have an xbox one.. can take it or leave it really lol! games aren't quite what they used to be, if you need more than 2 buttons I get confused lol

^^^ - Rainbow Islands was a stroke of true design genius. There were quite a few in and around that era - New Zealand Story being another.

Both games were instantly accessible - involving and great fun to play. But massively difficult to be perfect at.

Anyone remember West Bank for the ZX?

I was all over that s**t when I was 4/5 years old. Probably my first real memory of a video game.

I am friends with the creators, Andrew and Philip Oliver  They were also responsible for giving me my first job in the games industry. Happy days!
Tell them I hate them for the ICANFLY cheat on Treasure Island Dizzy. Forget your snorkel fly onto the wrong screen and end up under water. Instant death.

Did they make good money from the series?

Silkworm was one of the first two-player co-op games that really worked, for me. Who's being the chopper and who's being the jeep? Really like the fact that neither was better or worse than the other.

I remember a co-op Asteroids type game too - where the ship could be one of three configurations - depending on what you had on the screen against you. Strong, fast or best weapons, iirc. Can't recall what it was called though!

Hahahaha! I'll be sure to let them know mate. In truth, that annoyed the hell out of me, too! They don't make 'em like they used to :)

They made pretty good money (considering they were not long past school-leaver age). Even during school time they had written stuff for people / magazines and made a bit of money. Enough to buy a new computer that allowed them to write games and their own tool sets. From the first few games I think they made enough to buy a cheap car so they could get around (I think the early Dizzy games netted them a few thousand pounds each title). Not massive money but pretty good in those days considering their age. They certainly weren't bedroom millionaires! After working at/with Codemasters they finally started their own studio many years ago and it was only a couple of years ago it was forced to shut down due to the rather volatile nature of the games industry. They still live on and have since started a new company with some of those talented people from their previous studio.

It was quite an experience on my interview and my early days working for them. I idolised them as a kid and grew up on their games. They gave me a two day interview to prove myself as a potential coder (took me out for a slap-up meal and drinks on the evening) and asked me to write a version of Missile Command. I fortunately hit it off with them straight away and they invited me to join the studio after a few hours on the first day (Andrew Oliver whispered to me that I'd got the job and there was no pressure!) Of course I wanted to do my best so produced a Missile Command clone and started work shortly after. On the first day of my new job they got news of a new contract they'd won and I started working on the 3D graphics engine of a Nintendo64 game with a team of talented guys. Happy days!

Silkworm... I really, really enjoyed that game. Played it to death with my mates!

Cool :)

Sprite masking for collision detection, that's where it's at. I still get more enjoyment from playing games from that 80's/early 90's than I ever have done from modern "3D" games.

Quake II is the exception, that was brilliant multiplayer.

I still think head over heels is one of the best games ever designed. And games like bombjack.
