Cub's Flamer - Supercharged, Cage etc

Just wondering, what page do you get it supercharged? Wondering how it went, and if you would recommend it if you're looking for more power

Page 21 is when the charger appears :smile:

It is well worth it, if you are intending on keeping the car. It's a fair amount to spend if you then sell the car.

I'd also advise doing most other mods first. These cars are all about their handling / fun factor. Things like decent coilovers, brakes and a diff make them very capable. Supercharging it was the last thing I did / am doing pretty much. :smile:

That looks awesome, Oli. I really like the look of that roll centre kit.

When's the next BBQ at Cubbington Manor? The one where you give passenger rides for 50p :wink:
I think I'm owed a few passenger rides (from a few people...) I think those rides pre-Llandow were the only time I gave my T some stick before it was f**ked and off the road again! :tonguewink:

Hopefully it will be late June, should have my new car by then.

Will of course take people out in. [emoji41]
:stig: Yes please.

What spacers do you have mate? Are they bolted to the hub or are the studs long enough to just have them on? I need some but don't like the fact I bolt the wheel to the spacer for some reason lol.

Update time. Pic heavy as usual. :smile:

I was supposed to be in wales with SC guys this weekend, re-running our epic road trip from last summer. Sadly, due to needing to get the map checked and because I need much stiffer suspension the flamer wasn't going to be ready in time 😧

So, I thought I'd occupy myself over the weekend getting a few jobs done. First up, friday night my brother in law and I got the engine build on his '67 mustang finished and up and running. Epic car, but more importantly, after 7 months, it meant I got my garage back :smile:

IMG_4162_zps7p4nk6mh.jpg

I ordered a new white hose to replace the blue one from the throttle body to the boost hose, a new ITG breather filter and cone filter for the engine bay and some AST II's. I also picked up these R888s for the bargain price of £50. Yes, that's £50 total for the tyres. Thank you @Pete.

The wife went away, so I had the house to myself over the weekend. Excellent time to get some "car stuff" sorted. First up, gave the daily a full service;

Then cleaned both cars, BMW first;

Clio second;

IMG_4143_zpss4d4c652.jpg

Then the clio went back where it belongs, after 7 months i'm happy to have the garage back tbh :smile:

IMG_4159_zpsigtfe9qg.jpg

Onto the fun jobs. First up, I retrofitted the battery cover. This took some "innovation" with the drill, as the usual mounting points were done away with when it was supercharged due to ECU change etc. But, I got it on.

IMG_4171_zpshfhifo0c.jpg

Next up, bumper off for the boost hose swap for the intercooler, as I don't want blue. I prefer subtle black.

IMG_4172_zpsgsvkc4k7.jpg

IMG_4173_zpsdkzlhol2.jpg

So first one, off it came. Then it became clear the new one wasn't the right size, even with cutting. Doh. So, I measured for a new one, and put the blue one back on. But success on the other one :smile: Half of that job done.

IMG_4180_zpsxva2hvgq.jpg

Next up - brake ducts. I have been running no arch liners, but want to get some better braking ducts onto the brembos. I have had some 'homemade' ducts from Nick172cup in the garage for a while. And i recently bought some CM Composite cup racer ducts and deflector plates from @BIGASH

IMG_4181_zpsnbqj5yz0.jpg

I am going to give the homemade jobbies a go at anglesey, so bumper went back on and I went about fitting them including modifying the brackets in the bumper with the old dremel. :smile: Got one side in;

IMG_4189_zpsjssbjr1d.jpg

I was about to start on the other side, but the wife rang and I ended up going down the pub. So i'll get onto that tomorrow night.

Sometimes there is no better weekend than faffing about with cars :smile:

A couple of good days for the flamemobile.

Some of you who were at the Surrey RR meet saw the car run once with a figure of 230bhp. Charlie wouldn't run it again and said he backed off after 5k as to him it looked like the ignition timing was out around 5k.

This obviously had me a little concerned, so I'd garaged the car whilst busy on other things and work.

Today I got the map (fuelling, ignition timing, detting etc) checked by Mike Woodford - top man. It's absolutely fine, which is a relief. I couldn't face engine swap number 3.

In other news, my AST's have arrived at the garage. All of about 3 weeks from order to delivery - which I'm chuffed about. Can't beat straight to factory!

And these bits and bobs came so I can swap them out in the engine bay;

It's booked in for the ASTs to be fitted on the 29th, with full geo and corner weighting.

Cannot wait for Anglesey on the 2nd July. :)

What AST's did you go for Oli? I'm to thinking about them but a few people seem to say the service/delivery time is poor. I wouldn't complain with 3 weeks mind

Is there any videos of the car since supercharging in this thread? I'll go back and find them if there are. Interested to hear the noise.

I went for the AST 5200 mate, with custom spring rates.

They can be an absolute pain in the arse to get hold of / sort (ask @NorthloopCup lol!) but J-tech are an AST distributor so I ordered with them (they're obviously doing the geo etc) hence the 3 weeks. Speak to Jamie there and he'll see you right. There is a member on here been waiting 4 months for theirs 😧 - not from j-tech but through another supplier.

Not yet bud, although I have bought a go pro so will get footage at Anglesey and may go out for a run / shoot some footage tomorrow if I get time. I need @Luke digital skills to help me.... :)

I find the noise hilarious. It's like a mini, snorting dragon. 😂

I presume it has a proper whine to it.

You'll be at CSS yes?

Yep, accompanied with a crazy "sucking the world in through a straw" noise.

How is yours running?

Yep, I'm out on track in the morning at CSS if you fancy a passenger lap come and find me and give me a shout bud.
Brilliant, it's half the fun of the supercharger in my opinion.

Mines running much better now thanks, will hopefully be confident with it by CSS.

I may take you up on that! Although I imagine you will have a steady stream of passengers, I'm out in the afternoon so I'll repay the favour of you fancy it.

The blokes an utter flat out tnuc tbqfh. He has the business sense of a camels testicle, the morals of a prostitute and more neck than a f**king giraffe. It was only after threatening to blow his kneecaps through the back of his legs that he decided that the angry little bloke on the other end of the phone was serious.
NEVER AGAIN.

It doesn't whine in the same way as the likes of an eaton supercharger mate. It's a difficult noise to describe tbh.

This will go from strength to strength with Jamie setting it up mate

Good call on getting him to sort the AST's!

I'm excited about Anglesey because it will be first my TD since some significant improvements that I felt I was "used to" with the previous spec. It will be my first TD with;

- braking: the brembos and ducts
- suspension: ASTs vs Bilsteins
- engine; another 70bhp / 60lb ft from the charger.

I'm hoping it will challenge me to get used to it again, push myself harder in terms of my driving. :smile:
