Write Off! Blue 182

  V6 255 (Illiad Blue)
Coming into Nottingham from the A60 Roundabout (Banyan tree) theres a 2 lane into one scenario where 75% of the traffic realise that being in the left lane keeps the traffic flowing nicely. However 25% think they can fly round inthe inside lane and cut in, slowing everyone down and creating a potentially dangerous situation.

Well this morning, coming off the round about i was greeted by 2 police cars, 2 ambulances and a fire engine, all lights blazing directing traffic. A white rover smashed up on the kerb, ambulance dealing with the driver. Whats crashed into it? Blue 182....complete write off, front passenger side smashed in tells the probable story. Hes more than likely come flying round the inside cut straight in and smashed into the rover whilst trying to get in lane.

That's a shame, but driving like a kn8b will usually end in tears eventually. Hope all involved were ok.

So using a merge in lane is wrong? It's cun'ts that don't let people in that holds the traffic up.

Not when they pull out of the left lane, undertake 15 cars and cut in to save a few seconds sunshine, which is exactly what im referring to with the 25% of folk doing it at this round about. As for people coming from the mansfield direction, yes of course they are to use the lane to merge.

25% is quite a precise number. How did you arrive at that calculation?

Google maps of junction, plus paint diagram of what happened please.

Im not quite sure where on the a60 you mean but the people who cause the most accidents are the idiots that try and block you from filtering in on a "filter lane". They speed up on the inside to stop you entering the lane and causing you to run wide or have to speed up further to pass them. sometimes even pushing you wide enough into on coming traffic. "Just because you are in a bright blue clio coming up the outside of someone to filter in dosnt mean you are some chav trying to pull one over on someone. you are trying to make the traffic flow better and get in where appropriate. I get it all the time, come up the outside of someone in an executive car and try filter in in front but they speed up because they feel enraged that a blue clio would want to get in front of them.

this probably hasn't really got anything to do with how this accident probably mapped out but im just going off on one LOL.

MNaybe if people got into the lane they wanted to be in when it is signposterd, instead of 2 yards before the junction so they can try and cut into the queue?

...or is civility too much to ask?

But if it's a merge in turn then you're fully entitled to use the full road....

depends on the situation, some islands require you to filter in quite wide otherwise you would be blocking the island if you tried to get in lane staright away behind other cueing traffic in the inside lane so it depends on the situation.

Regardless though, people still try and stop you getting in, even if you are trying to make the traffic flow better.

Yellow dots - left lane traffic going straight ahead
Red line - example of car pulling into lane to go right around the roundabout to cut into merging lane
Boobies - Centre Island

Of course, the car in question could quite well have been coming around the roundabout and merging correctly, but from experience of 7 years on this road every day my guess is the red dot....see it all the time

Forgot to add the point of impact was approx 50 yards prior to the lane actually merging into one. Regardless of what has happened (since both lanes go straight on) someone has cut into the left lane before the merger point which has caused the collision

I use those lanes everyday thats what they are there for! you usually can get across anyway, ive not had any issue in getting in.
