Hi all,

Been after an Inferno 182 for a while now and need one ASAP as I'm currently using my other halfs car. I'm looking for a FF with full service history but most that seem to be available aren't FF or are over £3000!

Seen this one on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-C...aultDomain_3&hash=item3aa2ef7696#ht_657wt_958

Exactly what I'm after but seems to be quite expensive considering mileage.

Question is, would you buy it at that price or am I best off holding out for something cheaper?

Thanks

That's the thing, although I've always said buy cars on history, not mileage, £3k still seems a bit steep.

Go and drive it and see if you like it, pictures only tell part of the story.

Looks to have original wheel which by now will be horrible, original exhaust which might need replacing and looks to be on the original springs too.

I's also want to know which 'specialist' did the belts.

I wouldn't pay that much for that mileage dude! I think when people say buy based on history not mileage they're not talking about the price of the car as that isn't a factor if that makes sense? Are you dead set on an inferno?

In time I'd be looking to get a snappy wheel or something smaller, exhaust would be replaced with something aftermarket and one of the first things I'd be doing to it would be getting some coilovers.

May contact him and ask which specialist did it as I know the importance of having it done by someone reputable.

Yeh I know what you mean dude. I plan on having it a good couple of years and only do around 5000 miles a year so it wouldn't have moon mileage on it any time soon.

Id say massively over priced! Does it HAVE to be an Inferno?

Got my heart set on an Inferno so yes. A bit of a marmite colour but I think it's the best colour for a 182.

It is maybe a tad over priced but at the same time, claims full history with invoices and belts/dephaser done and 4 premium brand tyres.

You might buy a lower mileage one for less but might need money spending. That one sounds pretty clean and shouldn't want for much.

It is the best colour! But as said above find out which specialist did the belts etc. Is quite pricey I think, I paid 2.5K with 70000ish miles on.

Just seen it's had 6 previous owners as well, not sure whether I should be put off by that or not.

Yeh suppose so.

Just dropped him a message asking who did the belts and when and at what mileage the services were carried out etc. If it sounds good, I may go have a look at it and take it from there. If it seems decent, I'll give him an offer.

He's not answered any of my other questions but states the belts were done at Renault Specialist in Nuneaton, which from Googling, seems to be this place: http://www.m2srs.co.uk/

I've emailed 3 people about Clio Trophys I'm looking at the last few days and only one got back to me saying better if you call me and didn't even leave his mobile lol. Just general enquiries about condition/service history and also who did what work. Dunno why people can't just reply so I could pick which one I thought was best instead of wasting my time calling 3 people ( I hate speaking on the telephone lol)

So it's got 2 keys, invoice is present for belts changed done by Go-Renault in Leicester but the last 2 MOT's have had an advisory that there is an oil leak.

MOT is due next month so at that price, unless the MOT is done, I think I'll swerve it and keep looking.

Could just be from the gearbox which is common. A lot of cars this sort of age will have small leaks and what one MOT tester might give an advisory for another might not.

Mileage is not the end of the world if the price is right and it has been well looked after. Mine is on 116k, doesn't burn oil and I believe is on the original gearbox & clutch. Due to the nature of these cars a lot of them will have had a harder life though!

It looks tidy enough in the pics but at that price/mileage/previous owners I'd probably look elsewhere though.

If it had a years MOT and I could get him to nearer 2.5K then I may consider it but doubt he'll do both tbh.

Going to drop him another message to see though. Don't ask, don't get.

Lol I do I hate speaking on the phone genuinely I dunno why, just don't understand why people can't type a few lines and answer my questions, then if it's worth it I might ring or do what I prefer and go to speak to someone face to face.

TBF, I'm the same and I don't know why. Hate talking on the phone, find it much easier talking face to face.

If people can't be bothered to reply then I'll just move onto the next one, their loss.

So, he's said that he will put it through the MOT prior to selling so it will have a full year.

The only thing that bothers me is that on the previous MOT's, in 2013 and 2014 there has been the same advisory for an oil leak. Now I don't know where abouts this is but the seller assures me it's been fixed but everyone knows what some sellers are like.

I'm not the greatest when it comes to cars so don't want to buy this then find out the oil leak is something major that's going to cost me £500+.

Decisions decisions.

they are having a laugh with that mileage..best way to know about a car go and see it.. the advert should tell you the basics need to know.. go and see as many as you can.. then decide.. its a buyers market... 100s to choose from,if you dont mind the colour...take someone who owned one with you.. check everything you can.. lad on here other day sold a bad one..looked great drove great..that was from a dealer

The top end of the clio 182 market is barely topping 4k... The black 182 on my drive with 60k, no previous owners and belts done would struggle to get 3k... There seems to be a flood of 182s popping up from £1400-2000, leaving money to cover any work.

Keep looking...

I think you're letting your eagerness blind you somewhat (or rather you're just ignoring you head), I know you're keen to get into an Inferno, but this is not the one, not at that price.

I think you're bob on with the statement and exactly what my other half has been telling me.

Seems that one person puts an Inferno on for £3K-£3.5K and everyone follows suit as they believe that's what they're worth. Anyway, I'm not going to consider that 182 at that price, I've seen another one around 2 hours from me for around £2K. Just waiting for the seller to get back to me with some questions I've asked. Fingers crossed!

You've got to remember that there are now a low percentage of good 182s left out there, many of them not for sale and won't be.

By limiting yourself to a colour (not to mention one of the least common) you are heavily limiting your chances of finding a good one!

edit: Have a photo of my old car to make this no easier ;)

Lol I do I hate speaking on the phone genuinely I dunno why, just don't understand why people can't type a few lines and answer my questions, then if it's worth it I might ring or do what I prefer and go to speak to someone face to face.

The main reason is probably the fact it's now so easy for a dozen people to mail/text a seller whilst having a shite in the hope that they can either get 60% off by chancing their arm, or entertain themselves by playing message ping pong.

A genuine caller will usually call, or at least start by mailing with realistic and relevant questions which will lead to a call or to arrange a viewing.

There is far too much:

What you actually wanting for it bro?
Where u 2?
Still 4 sale? (to which, on more occasions than not that's the last you'll hear from them even though the answer is yes).

All of those sorts of short but sweet messages, combined with a few conversations that drag out for a couple of days with one question per email/text - and you can appreciate why sellers will only do so much to try and deal with everyone, and therefore focus more so on those that look like they may materialize.

I sent a email with the information I wanted ma be 5/6 questions then I would ring after that or arrange a viewing, save me speaking to 3 people and asking the same questions over again, I've just sold a car myself and had loads of stupid emails but took me all of about 10 seconds too reply with the information they wanted.

Yeah I don't really get it. What I hate is "Too much x to list, call for details" so you'd rather spend 10 minutes on the phone with loads of separate people rather than just type it out the one time? Sense... it makes none.
