Wheel bearing

  car? need a license 1st!

My front N/S wheel bearing is on its way out and needs replacing. (Car is a mk1 1.4S)

My mate was telling me its a hard job, you have to take all the disc and caliper off and the hub and the sus mounts.

Is this true? and if so, would i be able to do it myself?

You will need to remove the hub, so that means disconnecting and removing caliper, disc, pads, shock, driveshaft and so on.

Then you will need a press to get the bearing out, and to fit the new bearing.

If your not to sure best get a garage to do it for you, its not exactly a hard job but you need a press.

i know you need some force to get the old bearing out, ive replaced the rear O/S bearing not so long ago.

my mate migd round the edge which expanded the hub a bit so would could knock the bearing out.

Ill get a garage to do it for me, sounds like too much hard work.

Would i be better going to a dealer or a "back-street" garage, like a non-franchise one? (cost wise)
