Do these exhaust manifolds really aid bhp over the standard one on a 182?

Yeh. Don't fit one. The stock item is better.

avoid like the plague, i nearly bought one, but heard too many horror stories to put it down to pot luck.

I think this line sums up how much they know about the car they are claiming to be an expert in tuning:

What cast iron manifold? The last performance clio model to have one of those that I am aware of is the 1.8 16v mk1, even the williams was tubular and all 172/182 ones are too!

The only thing that will do that a standard 182 one doesnt, is crack and need removing and welding IMHO

No. It's a poor copy of the original 182 manifold.
