Went in for an MOT came out needing a list of things!

  1eight2
Dropped my car off for an MOT yesterday and basically have a list as long as my arms with engine problems. Diagnosis said "destructive miss fire"

Changed plugs but still no better. Belt and service is due next month but just spent 600 pulling a dent out and fitting an RS192 exhaust.

Feel heartbroken at the thought of cost, not sure the car is worth it! What would you do in this situation?

Car is a 54 plate 182 58k

Budgeted for the MOT prior to fitting a new exhaust and getting a dent removed............

Could be anything causing the misfire, could be leads? Or coil pack?

Misfire could be coil pack or leads. So don't worry about that.

Service it yourself and then get belts done at a specialist. This alone will save you money.

Nothing to worry about and sadly its all part of running a car. The belts are not a suprise to you so you should have saved up really.

He said he will take it to a Renault specialist, hopefully he will have more of an idea... I know belts and service is pricey so I set aside 600 but didn't expect so much from an MOT.

If your car is properly maintained, there is no reason for it to fail an MOT.

I check my car over everytime I wash it, lights tyres brakes etc and if there's the slightest knock/wobble/blow/bang I get it fixed asap.

I'm not saying that in a 'Holier than thou' voice, I do it because I don't want a massive bill come MOT time!

I keep mine well maintained but appreciate your help. Fingers crossed its just a coil pack/leads.

Really?!

Why did you send it for an MOT with a misfire then?

I didnt notice a misfire! The cars been running healthier than ever lately. I haven't drove it for 3 weeks prior to the MOT as I've been on holiday so I'm not sure if that could have been a cause?

Also gave it 15 minutes warm up before driving 20 minutes to my MOT station

Drop me a pm if you need a hand fitting leads and coilpack. I'm actually fitting some new ones on mine this Saturday.

Thanks for the offer mate but I think I'm stuck inbetween a hard place and a rock obviously having no MOT until the garage who will expect the work passes it. :(
