It didn't.

Into a bag of rice and then leave in the airing cupboard for 48 hours, Guy at work did the same thing. He did the above and it all works ok now apart from the camera.

The rice might help but no need. Rinse the phone under the tap. Airing cupboard for a few days. Never fails.
