tapping noise

strange one this, when i'm driving up hill i can hear a tapping noise coming from engine, any ideas what it is thats wrong?

How bad is it could be a number of things does it vary with rpm ear speed is it always there is the car serviced what fuel has it got is it been used regularly.

and chance of a recording of the noise?
