Taking hand brake cable out of calliper

Came to change a rear calliper today, all going fine until it came to separating the calliper and the hand brake cable.
Could not get it to shift from the guide hole in the calliper, surely it should come out?!

They can be a bit of a t**t if they're seized in. Usually a good thrashing and a bit of wd40 sorts them out.

Any tips? Best to do it before removing the calliper? What would you suggest as a method of getting it out, and back in @NorthloopCup

Yeah do it with the caliper still attached. Are you replacing the cables? Pair of pliers and give it a real good wiggle. Spray plenty of wd40 at it and leave it to soak in first though.

No not if your careful it won't mate.

Just for reference.
Got back under the car Sunday morning, looked at the metal sleeve on the handbrake cable/the hole in the calliper. Noticed that they weren't sitting quite parallel to each other. Tapped the metal sleeve at about 12 o'clock (used a flat ended punch and small lump hammer), and it came straight out. Tapping towards the lower half was just wedging it further in.
