Damn I have the same problem.I'm getting my wheel redone soon , but I need to know if I can get that rubber grip sold seperately ? As my grip on the right handside is totally buggered.I'm a bit unsure if they will fix the rubber grips , so I'd rather try and organize some new grips as well.

My wheel has melted and the right thumb grip is well split. Can't find anything on ebay, so phoned dealer. These are £1259.19 inc vat! WTF

Petition required as this is not even funny. My local trimmer won't touch it becuase of the shape. Even if renault brought out a thumb grip this would help.

I was quoted £300 for a 182 steering wheel from my dealer..

That quote was from Renault Watford. TBH I'm not buying one if it's £300 quid. He did ask if I was sat down.

The only way this will ever be sorted is if you all get together, write a letter each to renault and to someone like watchdog. For the hassle of writing a short letter (or all sending the same letter individually signed) you might save a few hundred pounds!

What's happening with this now. How can we take this forward. It could do with being taken forward by the forum as a whole in my opinion. Can we make this sticky and get everyone to post up their wheels falling to bits/splitting/melting.

I'm new on here, and don't want to appear too forward, but I feel as a group we can do something, but on our own it's going to be very difficult.

Both my 182 and vee wheels have melted in the same place, 1-3 o'clock

Be a good excuse to get rid of them though, there like dinner plates, I like the look of the momo trek, would be nice if renault make a contribution though.......

My wheel has just started to melt on the right hand side just under the rubber grip. SO can we all do something like email renault on the same day and all complaine about it ??!! what with this happening and waiting for the gear box to fall apart im waiting for the day when i go to my car and its just a pile of bits .

I went in with mine cars just coming up for 3 yrs (mk3 1.6) and was told wear and tear so went to see how much it was for a new one....£250 f**king quid !!!!!

it'll take time for wear like this to become evident but it might be that these cars are now too old for Renault to be taking much interest. be good if people could get together and make a representation though - may be RUK might be willing to offer wheels at cost or something?

could you mention the sh*te gearbox whilst you're writing as well, please?

Same here, mention that you're a forum member on which with lots of others are facing the same 'wear and tear'!! I would happily back you up.

Mines a 53 on 31k. My "wear and tear" is directly in the line of the windscreen and side window, I normally hold the wheel at the bottom but strangely no wear there!!! hmmm!

Images of you flying raound corners holding the wheels at the bottom, swinging your arms around like you're rocking a baby to sleep! Brilliant!

Yeah mine is going too :dapprove: same place 1-3 o'clock and the right hand thumb grip is worn/ripped. the left hand side of the wheel and the grip looks brand new. Would be good if the club admin could help us with a petition /sticky thread - something should be done.

Everyone who has a broken thumbgrip needs to document their wheel and write a letter.

Surely getting 200+ letters documenting the case of the steering wheel melting and the thumbgrips made of poor rubber should enlighten them to their own stupidity.
