Sony A55 and A33

Anyone had any use/play around with hese? Seem very interesting cameras and am sorely tempted sell up my canon gear and move across. Seem to be getting good reviews and with IS in the body makes it seem like a good range.

I've not used these models, albeit i am a big Sony fan. However you will find while the price of the bodies for their spec. is a bit cheaper than Canon or Nikon, the amount of used lenses on the market makes it hard to find cheap used glass.

that is true. at the moment sony are offering VAT back on all purchases made between now and christmas so prices will be nearly 20% lower. Glass is a worry, but you can buy it for aroound the same price as new canon/nikon glass and you dont need the IS/VR as it is built into the body

Its about the same price for low spec glass. But say you wanted a 70-200, the sony is about £1600, a (new to market) Canon IS mk2 is the same price. However if you don't want to spend that much you can buy the 70-200 f2.8 Non IS for £900 or the F4 IS for about £850. So you can spend a lot less to get some decent glass.

'Prosumer' glass is what both Nikon and Sony lack in their range and what makes them an expensive choice for 'prosumer' customers.

I still recommend Sony, the crop sensors in the new cameras are meant to be the best on the market for noise and their Full Frame cameras are dirt cheap compared to Canon or Nikon.
