should I be worried about this?

should I be worried about these timing marks? im guessing theres a good chance its timed up wrong?
also I couldn't find any play in the dephaser pulley after having a suspected dephaser noise, should I see any play here? i.e between the pulley and the centre

it does look a little suspect mate. Only way to check is to remove the bungs at the other end of the head (you'll need replacements though). Dephaser noise would be obvious with the cover removed, and no play in the dephaser is fine iirc.

it runs ok and the tension felt about right.
with a knackered dephaser would there not be play in it?

there would be some play in it yes, but there usually is a little regardless. where are you? pop to a specialist if you're not sure on checking the timing. It's simple to check, but not advisable if you're not sure what to do.

for the timing I assume you take both the bungs out from the end of the cams get the engine to tdc and they should both the horizontal? do you not need the locking tools to check or will a visual check do?

EDIT: im in norfolk

IIRC they're not horizontal - the slots are slightly off.

If you look at the tool to slot into them its not straight, I think lol.

That would be best.

There are a few fella's on here that are top notch.

I've never dealt with him personally, but heard loads of great things about Fred@BTM.
