reprogramming a key fob

  Astra (H) VXR
my key fob is eating batteries a rate of knotts so i have aquired a second fob from an old car my grandad used to own. he had accidently kept the spare key. my recent fix for this was replacing the battery once a week. i bought 40 off ebay for £4.

i was wondering if anyone knows how to reprogramme the fobs for a 2003 clio or if there is a company on here that can do them, i rang a locksmith in lancaster that specialises in cars but he will only do it if he supplys a brand new key and reprogrammes that, which cost a total of £150.

any help would be much appreciated..

thanks

You can't reprogram keys that have already been programmed to a car IIRC.

You need a virgin key that has never been programmed.

Try speaking to Mick at Diamond motors, he is good with this type of work and has full Clip services / diagnostics.

It may be something he can help you out with :)

The second hand key is 100% useless mate and as above you need a 'virgin' fob. The fobs are around £63.00 +vat then you'll need a key blade to which are £13 +vat. Finally it will need programming to the vehicle which will cost £45
