Possible Timing Tool Rental

  Monaco Clio 172
After buying my second set of timing tool to do my dephaser, which will be done as soon as the temp is above freezing im thinking of renting the tools out. With a returnable deposit to cover possible damages, postage paid by hirer and a small fee. If People are local I dont mind dropping in and allowing use of the tools to save the deposit.

A few people spoke about doing this. There were a lot of positives and also a lot of negatives.

Personally I think its a good idea, but you will need to include some kind of disclaimer form for people to sign upon recieving them and sending them back to say they got them in good condition and they have been returned in good condition. And a FULL PRICE deposit just incase something goes wrong or they dont come back.

Then you need to take into account how long people will use/need them for as you may get some people keeping hold of them and say "oh i havent had a chance to do it yet" so best stick a hire period time/price in there. I was lucky enough to have a fellow member who lives local (clio_stu) let me borrow his and i had no problems giving him something for it even though he never asked.

You will get people coming along and saying "why not just leave it to specialist's, this is encouraging people who dont know what theyre doing to take the job on and f**k it up". Dont let that put you off your idea. At the end of the day, its only an engine (meaning it's not life threatening to have a go yourself)

I started a thread here ; http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?591455-Cambelt-Tool-Sharing-Scheme

I still think it would be good to have some kind of sharing scheme, though I think it has been made pretty clear the forum itself would have nothing to do with it, it would be something for members to work out amongst themselves. I don't need the tools yet but when I do it'd be nice to be able to borrow some. The next person to do a cambelt job (properly - with the proper method to tension the belt etc) should write a better guide too!

It's problematic, this idea, apparently as some part of the tool eventually bends (if I remember correctly). This was covered before in a previous thread. I was going to ask to borrow the tool, but in the end eventually thought better of it.
